Very cool!

I finally have a use for my used oil filters. Now I can shoot silently and clean my gun at the same time!

Great idea, too bad we can't have threaded barrel ends here in the formerly great State of California.

However, it's good knowledge for any future contingencies.

And they work!

Non threaded barrels
..what about a compression fitting? With the hole through the oil filter being huge thus large margin for error, a less precise method for retaining the filter could work?

I assume the killjoys have outlawed such an approach as well

I would think if you're using a suppressor, obeying any gun laws is the last thing on your mind.

$75 for the Econo Can + $200 tax stamp (not that you can get it in CA) when you can get a patch trap on Amazon for $10.

Make friends with a machinist, and everything can be made into a suppressor. heh.

Interesting to see what happens when the paper element eventually cooks out.

Outlaw all machining tools! :twofinger

But uh, seriously, I'm not sure its the best idea to even jokingly talk about committing federal felonies.

Is that the same thing as a solvent trap? ;)

Pretty nifty and more effective than one would think.

But if you wanna recycle the oil filters, here's a link to a list of places to do that (or you can bag up the filters and call Recology in SF and they'll pick it up with the rest of your trash). http://www.sfenvironment.org/recyclewhere

:laughing only in CA would a thread talking about Suppressors have somebody chime in about recycling :rofl

Not that I know anything about it but. .....

There is a cheaper option for about $40 on eBay for ruler 10/22. Works the same way. Also if you're shooting 22lr, standard high velocity 22 sounds about the same as having no oil filter at all. If you're looking for quiet, you need to shoot subsonic ammo ~1050fps. The oil filter can not cover up the crack sound of it breaking the sound barrier. Also the GIANT Chevy oil filter is over kill for 22 when a similar thread tiny Pontiac oil filter has the exact same effectiveness. BTW possession is a felony if your filter has a bullet hole through your "solvent trap"

Threaded barrels are OK on rifles. A definite NO GO on any pistols. There is an adapter for stock 10/22 barrel. Works great. No threading needed

That adheres to pistols, not rifles

Don't anyone do anything stupid. ATF/DOJ catches you with so much as a coke bottle on your 22 it's 'federal pound me in the ass prison' (tm).

Having lost hearing in both ears due to gun shots, I wish this was one area the law made more sense. If my motorcycle has to be quiet, then why the hell should my rifle be noisy?

So local politics and pussy neighbors can complain noise as the reason not to have a gun range.
