It takes much more effort to ride a slow bike with poor geometry at anything more than a pokey pace in the twists.

You're probably doing it wrong, then.

There were times I was taking my cruiser around corners with my inside foot lifted off the peg so it could fold up and I could get a little more lean angle. I was often within millimeters of scraping pipe, and the slightest bump in the road would cause my bike to slam into the pavement mid-corner.

Lean into the turn. Just like you would on a sportbike. You don't have to get your cheek off the seat and point your leg out, just get some weight on the inside.

You still can't carry the same speed a sport bike can. But you can easily do turns at 2x the yellow posted speeds. Which, IMO, for a cruiser, is more than adequate. If you try to ride a cruiser at race replica speeds, you're in for an unpleasant surprise.

You gotta ride em like what they're designed for. That said, I can maintain a much better than pokey speed on my Road King. There's a somewhat unique riding style required, but it's not difficult, just different.

+1

i hate people who talk shit about bikes when they no nothing about it. just because sportbikes are lame and cruisers are gay, AND buells are the best bikes in the whole world, doesnt mean people need to talk shit about buells just because their jealous.

we're all riders! where's the love, people?!!

I actually thought the thread was going to be a poll more along the lines of

"pwning a Harley Davidson Will Change Your Life!"

Kidding of course! :) But, though all types of bikes are easy to make fun of, it's just a little easier to make fun of Harleys :) Not to bash, but I've ridden several Harleys, and now a Vespa, and I think I would rather have a Vespa, than a Harley , call me weird... The other day I was riding down Palomares on a Vespa and I passed a Harley, where the road got twistier to the south. Granted, I think he was trying to relax, but still...

I was doing that, and still dragging the peg and sometimes pipe - hence the switch to sportbikes.

Just went to the harley site and saw Marisa smoking that rear tire and wearing those tight-ass jeans and leathers and stuff. Then she pulls off her f/f, shakes out her voluminous head of hair, and says "don't worry, I'll help guide you ...",

Think I'm gonna take her up on that.

A family friend had a street glide, my uncle owns a road king all chromed out, beautiful bike I mist add, I rode the street glide and I was super comfy, the tq was nice, something that I'd gear to just cruise and tale y
Son out on when he's old enough and when I'm old enough to own one myself, being 23 doesn't qualify me for an HD :p

But I have to question those who buy them sometimes, they go out and spend good money on one only to tear it apart and ad ape hangers, bags, pipes, air ride and etc. When it would be more cost effective to have a custom one off chopper instead of adding thousands of dollars on top of a pricey machine

a one off chopper would cost a lot more than that...

Get a Bonneville, neighbor. Rated better in every way at about the same price. You can redesign every bit of it and make it uber-cool lookin'. If you have to bob it, you can do that, too.

or even better..cafe a thunderbird sport

Yep. But I guess we aren't welcome in some circles. My bro-in-law wants to get a hog and I keep urgin' him to stop by Hattar and look at Triumphs offerings in that category. He said, and I quote "I cant show up at the Redwood Run (or something like that) on a Triumph." That's just sad. Brit bikes used to run with hogs when I was a kid, no problem. It seems like things have tightened up in an intolerant direction.

PS. That bike above this is awesome to behold, imho.

At least a triumph owner would understand the stigma of "leaking oil" when the modern bikes are far more reliable...

Some riders (of all brands) are intolerant of other types or brands of bikes. Others are more open minded. It can be tough to find a receptive crowd if you aren't a conformist.

Ironic, isn't it? One major aspect of riding has always been non-comforming. Everyone else drives a car. Riding a bike was being different. Feeling the wind. Feeling free.

But hey, if they're that stuck up that they won't let you feel comfortable, they're not worth hanging with, IMO. Time to hit the road and seek out other riding companions...

the redwood run has nothing to do with riding motorcycles.

That is a pretty cool JD tractor and I'm sure it would be cool to own. But I would have to have a modern CAT to do the real dirty work as well.

More like operating a John Deere.....

Especially the trailer part. :laughing

Okay, okay, I'm not really and HD hater, but that was too easy. :teeth

He lives up north and I'm here so I wasn't sure what he was talkin' about. So, I had to look it up! O-kay. I guess they have a rally where they all ride somewhere in addition to the festivities. i guess that's what he was talkin' about. As far as I can tell from the website, it looks like a Girls Gone Wild shoot.
