Parachutes/Skydiving Equipment

:laughing, No, that is legit.

Is that right? I will ask him. I would just love an online resource where I can window shop and learn a little bit more about the different types of chutes and stuff. I didn't realize there was so much to it. Seems like this is a second Sport-bike habit. LOL all the different types of cells and sizes and controls and whatnot. Who knew the silks were so pricey? Like $5k for a parachute? That is a lot more than I expected.

There seems to be a game to it though. I keep looking around for New Airborne style chutes for sale, which I reckon is higher weight rated, and the places that sell them seem to not want to post the price. I suspect because they are clumsy, slow and much cheaper than 7-9 cell performance chutes. The places that do post prices are selling used ones for like $200, which sounds like a terrifying option I don't want.

Is this the starter bike of parachutes? Dunno, interesting stuff to learn. I will be using rental gear while I get the license anyway, so I guess there will be opportunities to learn more there.

Do you really want a budget parachute?

NO, like a said, NOT what I am looking for. I don't feel like I need a Mercedes either though. I'm looking for the reliable work truck of parachutes, LOL.

yeah, he's a couple of jumps into it right now.

All the legit shops will have a price list available.

Ultimately, I would look to find a DZ that you like and work with them. You're going to log a lot of hours so it's best you get along. I haven't jumped in 6 years but I'm sure I could dig up some old contacts if you want.

In 1980 I bought a new square parachute, round reserve, and harness/container system for $2000.

I skipped skydiving and got into paragliding. No waiting for plane. Some great flying sites locally, and have flown different states and countries. When I travel for work, I have brought my wing with me on the plane. Sometimes security freaks out because I carry a reserve. But, no serious issues. Pacifica has one of the nicest coastal sites. It isn’t unusual to get a couple hours in after work. Also, the paragliding community crosses with the sky diving community pretty easily. We all love being in the air. Good luck!

Cool, I'm glad you love it, but I am not in to float, I am in it for the free fall. I have never experienced speed and intensity like it. I am all about the terminal velocity.

Have you tried the indoor skydiving?
Good practice for free fall

No, but I have done tandem before. I am sold as a mofo.

Learning to fly in the tube will be cheaper than the equivalent time in free fall.
I was hooked on my first jump in ‘79. Quit in ‘88 after my second back injury. (Car accident)

You know, I am just not sure about that. There is a jump zone in my town after I get certified. The closest indoor skydive is like 60 miles away.

Wait until you do you canopy relative work.

Do you mean folding and packing or work in descent?

Canopy Relative Work (CRW) may be described as the intentional maneuvering of two or more open parachute canopies in close proximity to, or contact with one another during descent.

And than you have swooping. Swooping is the apex discipline within the realm of “canopy piloting,” which describes all the complex maneuvers and dynamics that a skydiver executes under his or her parachute.
A super-fast landing with lots of acrobatic flair. When executed by skilled practitioners, swooping landings can last a very long time, with the skydiver holding themselves in a dashing pose as the ground (or water) zips along beneath their waiting feet.

Simile... Freefall is like the drag strip and CRW/Swooping is like the race track. Both fun for different reasons.

I liken the canopy ride (Stiletto 150 in my case) to a giant roller coaster ride, 1/2 mile high with no track (make your own).

Yeah, I am super interested in learning more about HALO insertion, but I figure I better learn to walk first, LOL.
