Parking Lot Practice

Until tort law is fixed, parking lots and private streets should stay free of hooliganism, sorry. Next thing you know, some guy pulls a Darwin and the estate sues for 'neglecting to kick the guy out'.

there are times when a cop has every right to write a ticket for this situation...then there are times when cops are on power trip robotic auto mode and would still write you a ticket, even up in the hills in an empty parking lot with nobody else around.

If you deny that any cop ever takes any action based on power and not judgment, you're delusional. I hear you guys saying that cops are just humans like everybody else, but then somehow you're immune to getting drunk on power. :rolleyes

I'm not saying all cops are like that. But you CAN'T deny that some are.

A couple Sundays ago we had a local LEO visit us during slow speed cone practice at the local marina parking lot. I spotted the top of the patrol car as it drove slowly along the adjoining street, behind the raised dirt berm, and then watched as it stopped behind some parked trucks and empty boat trailers. Finally, after a few minutes of watching us, the LEO drove up and parked right near where we were parked and taking a breather.

"I got a report that some bikers were doing wheelies over at the horse stables," he said, after emerging from his vehicle.

I almost laughed. Horse stables!

"But all I saw were some Harley riders going really slow. So I came over here to watch you guys."

We exchanged some small talk, and he volunteered that he himself is a rider (rides a big and fast Kawasaki, bright neon green, 'cuz "that's the color cagers see!"). He was built like a tall young tree, about 6'4" and solid muscle. I bet he looks great in his leathers.

Anyway he said, Stay safe, you guys!

After he left, one of the guys said, Horse stables! Yeah, right. :rolleyes

:laughing

The same argument applies to you, of course. Not saying that all motard riders are hooligans, but you CAN'T deny that some are. It's an invalid argument in either case. You're attempting to say that a ticket written is always a mistake. The LEOs did not say they would always ticket, just that the option was open.

Some tickets are delivered by power-tripping cops, sure. And it's completely moot as to whether the ticket is deserved: It's deserved based on your actions, not the cop's. What everyone's trying to tell you is that, per the law, the ticket is valid. That's all...my recommendation is that you just accept the advice.

Wow, I am getting more and more impressed with our law enforcement by the post. I was trying to stay civil, but here goes. I never once denied that there are hooligan stoner motard riders. Never even had the chance. Aside form that, I'm not one. I know a lot more pigs that smoke weed than I know motard riders that do. And guess who breaks more laws than anyone? Cops. Because they can, and won't get busted. How often do I see a cop going the speed limit on the freeway? Ever hit the red and blues to get through traffic, just to turn them off immediately after the traffic clears? I see it constantly. Furthermore, I don't think any of you are actually paying attention to the posts from those who aren't cops. Just like every time someone gets pulled over without deserving it and tries to explain themselves. Falls on deaf ears. That's the definition of being drunk on power. :thumbdown

So meanwhile, keep patting each other on the backs while you deny that there are humans in every profession and hobby. :shocker

For those of you who have had good experiences with the police while doing something these guys consider "reckless" good for you. I can only wish all cops were as understanding as those.

Time to get the thread back on track. Any more negatives or name calling and it will be closed.

it's FAR too much of a pain for the OP to do the right and easy thing, when there are SO many open parking lots around.. :x

I can't tell where the sarcasm in this sentence is, but I can tell you that there aren't any parking lots at Hollister. It's a dirt bike OHV. Not exactly the kind of practice a street bike would be needing. And as far as there being "SO many parking lots around" I'm assuming that's the sarcasm. So what's your point? :wtf

Crank1000, I'm not a LEO but what strike me that you're failing to grasp (but I may have missed it) is that the empty parking lot belongs to some entity (whether it's a person or corporation, etc). Now, I have a big backyard with alley access. If I left that open and came back with somebody riding around in it (ok, it's not that big, but pretend it is) I would be upset. And, if my neighbors saw it happening I would hope they would call the cops. Or, if I came how and saw it happening, I would call the cops. And that trespasser should expect words with me before the cops show up.
How is that different than a parking lot? You can argue all kinds of ways you want, but the end result is - it isn't.
If you want to ride around in a parking lot without getting in trouble, ask permission. You're probably going to get a lot of no's before you ever hear 'ok'. Or, you can buy your own.
Somewere back there someone also made a comment about cops being able to pull you over anytime for whatever. Well, if you're doing something wrong... then you're doing something wrong. Whether you're only doing 5mph over in a 65 or 100+, it doesn't matter. Both are breaking the law. One just costs more. If you can't man up and take responsibilty for your actions, you can always take the bus.
Everytime I speed or the front wheel comes up or what not, I am responsible for it. Either I did it on purpose (with the illustion of control) and I own up to it if I get pulled over. Or I wasn't in control, which is far worse, because then my lack of control puts not only myself but others and danger - and if I get pulled over I take resposibility for riding outside my skill set. Either way, I'm a reasonable adult and realize there are rules. If I break the rules, intentionally or not, and get caught doing it, I know there are reprecussions for it. I don't throw a tantrum and yell at the cop because he is giving me for my speeding.
My parents taught me better than that.

I'm not sure why everybody is assuming I'm defending my right to poach parking lots. If you look on page 1, I already admitted I would have to take it to the track for the kind of riding I want to do :rolleyes. At this point, I'm defending a point that was made earlier about cops that get drunk on power, which was followed up with a cop rolling his eyes and tuning it out. That kind of shit I can't stand. A badge doesn't make you right, usually it just makes you an asshole.
