LOL - dude posts saying "I did a stupid and reckless thing and feel terrible about it" and a whole bunch of other people post telling him what a stupid and reckless thing he did and that he should feel terrible about it!

Piece of advice to to the holier-than-thou types: when someone does something really stupid and suffers the consequences of it, it doesn't help them at all to tell them how stupid a thing to do it was or that "you shouldn't do that again"

Dude didn't suffer jack shit other than having been emotionally distraught enough to cry, supposedly (pictures, or it didn't happen!). But you raise a good point about redundancy.

OP, I'm sorry that you're stupid and reckless. Nobody's perfect. :(

Read his posts in some other threads. Those that ignore history are condemned to repeat it.

I know the op realises he was wrong but anybody that does that type of thing in the first place is missing something. As a few other posters said before, he shouldn't be riding. He clearly doesn't have the common sense needed to operate a motorcycle safely.:|

I once got hit by a drunk driver (dont know if he was convicted, as the Assistant DA called me to know if I had been injured and would testify) in Houston, but I declined - as i was not injured and never talked to the guy (a cop was driving by). I also declined to sue and got my insurance money for the totaled car.

I would advise her to sue your sorry arse for everything you got. I would.

Really all he needed was a sissy-bar and none of this would have happened.

Untrue. A rider ( a new rider for example) unkowning of these fallacies in reasoning, and its results, can see this as an example and learn. These threads continue not because NOBODY learned, but because NOT EVERYBODY learned

:thumbup

absolutely. I learn a hell of a lot from reading BARF...not only about riding in general, but also about the specifics or riding here in the bay area which is WAY different from riding in Europe. So I too commend and thank the OP for posting.

As to the OP, enough people on this thread have already reinforced the stupidity of what you did, and the truism, that many of us have seen or done really stupid things especially as an adolescent/college kid. Fact is people learn at their own pace. I'd suggest you ask yourself how quickly you learn, as this relates exactly to the Keith Code quote above. The challenge is you never know how big your bucket of luck is...just that it is running out in exchange for your experience, from which you may learn, should you choose to do so.

Incidentally, you have reinforced my resolve never to ride late at night on a Friday or Saturday night.

Why do people who get in a lot of accidents LOVE to tell everyone about their f*ck ups? I noticed they think it's funny how badly they f*ck up. It's like they live in their own "Jackass" movie. :rolleyes

So you learned nothing? Even if she is stupid and says GO FAST IT MAKES ME WET, you can't be man enough and say no? Instead you will do it again and maybe next time something happens she will die or you both will?

How old are you again? Don't you realize what you are doing is not only stupid as shit but dangerous as well? Stunt if you want. Do it properly geared and in a proper place. Not on public roads and for damn sure not with a passenger even if they want you too....SPECIALLY IF THEY ARE NOT GEARED! If I was her Dad I would be over to your house in a flash and beat the living shit out of you.

You my friend are Darwin nominee of the year for me.

I don't want to pile on by noting the obvious FAIL in
Smacks thought processes.
However, I disagree with him and all the other posters
who think maybe he has learned his lesson.
My evidence to the contrary is that in his story he lists
her drinking as the number 1 factor in the incident.
In fact, he shouldn't have mentioned her drinking at all.
If he had learned his lesson he would still be crying and
muttering over and over how he selfishly almost killed his girl.

Yep, been there, done that and married the girl, who is next to me on the sofa eating seaweed flavored potato chips and watching Japanese TV. Still wishes for video from her ejection and subsequent tumble down 84 from time to time when the topic comes up.

Jack, well done posting this up. The harm is done but the pics may do some good. I suspect you are probably being harder on yourself than even your harshest critics on the board. You lucked out, do what you can for the girl and learn something from this.

Paging budBandit. If it's any concession, he ended up marrying the woman he lost off the back of his bike under similar circumstances and speed.

I'm glad she's ok, given the circumstances, it could have been much, much worse!

When I have a passenger (have taken many over the years), I always ensure that their grip on me is tight when I'm going to do something that requires them to be secure. No exemptions, no assumptions.

OP, you've been open and honest about the whole thing without trying to dodge the responsibility, so I'm sure that you're going to beat on yourself and learn from this far more than anything somebody is going to say to you on here.

Thanks for sharing your story, especially here on BARF where you have to know what you're in for - I hope it helps others. Clearly you have at least some small understanding of how badly things can go wrong now, though I would urge you to keep thinking about some of the things people have posted here, even if they piss you off.

One additional thing, I fully admit that I don't know the extent of the passenger's inebriation, but she had ridden with OP before, knew what kind of riding he did, and still made the decision to get on the bike. Maybe she didn't appreciate fully how bad the consequences of her decision could be (clearly OP didn't either and therefore wasn't appropriately responsible), but referring to her as some sort of passive object with no decision-making capabilities (as many who've posted in this thread have at least indirectly done) seems kind of insulting. Just to be clear, before someone totally misunderstands, I'm not defending OP at all. Just want to acknowledge that the passenger is a human being with the ability to make decisions for herself (poor as they may be).

Including his barf account?

All solid points, but at the end of the day, it's HIS resposibility to get her home safely and if that includes saying "yer hammered. yer not getting on my bike." then so-be-it.
But yeah, I agree. Neither one will be attending a MENSA meeting anytime soon.

Looks like you have "issues" there Mr. Smack. Leave the innocent out of your growing problems.

I have seen two riders like you in the last two days. I could have killed either of them and a passenger, by just pushing them a little further than their own insanity already pushed them.

Self control is self preservation. Maybe that will appeal to your egocentric personality.
Having guts doesn't make you smart.....
.....it took guts to post this.
That's all I'll say.
But, you keep going on with some kind of justification for these actions.
We'll, I can see at least two suspensions coming from this one.... no need to call names.
You have got to be kidding.
