Do take note. The road is challengingly narrow and wonderully twisty. Mt. Unumum might be better for a newer rider.
 
The worst paved roads, for me are those with very steep switchback corners. The road up to Palomar is one, the one up to Mt. Baldy is worse. The road to Crestline is not awful, but has some pretty tight corners.

I went up to Baldy on, like, my second or third ride in a dozen years, and those corners are not fun. Utterly blind, very awkward angles, first gear, no flat spots anywhere. Uphill is definitely worse than downhill. I can easily see someone getting a bit over their head on those and having a low speed tipover.

Of course the second worst paved roads are roads like Glendora Ridge Road. Road should be one way only, honestly. Super narrow, very nice sheer cliff on one side, shoulders about 3" wide. But, hey, at least there's huge boulders in the corners!

Tried it once, and turned back, afraid of getting eaten by an F-150 coming the other way.

I just have AT&T and a smart phone … my experience, recently, is that it’s rare that I don’t have cell reception on a mountain top in CA … I had bars of 5G last night on Sonora Pass—I’m watching scattered thunderstorms on Masonic Peak, right now:

I just kick the big rocks to one side … will say that usually by the time I get to my BARF Rally motel room bed, I’m a happy camper. :laughing

the scattered lightning I’m seeing is probably ten miles away, I guess.

my dear old dad used to know how to count the seconds after a lightning strike until he heard the thunder, and he could then calculate the distance in his head, but I never learned that trick.
 
Flamingo remediation project at Head of the Bay.
Flamingo is still there after a couple weeks. Good on 'em.
