Pivothead - sunglasses with 1080p camera

Yup, I fixed my original post since it was not even remotely clear which one I was talking about.

I bought a set last week the Black Recon Jet with changeable lenses

Directions out the box are a bit "sketch"!!! They are supposed to be "like a memory stick" well I plugged them and nothing. Change cable, still nothing WTF!! :wtf
Email to Tech Support nothing back within an hour so I decide to call the number on the website. Nice girl answers and I ask for Tech Support. No Tech Support at that site. She asks what is wrong and I describe the problem. She casually says "You need to turn them on first"!! What "memory stick" do you need to turn on first :rolleyes I felt like an idiot :twofinger

Anyway played around with them, updated the firmware. It downloads as a .rar file so you have to get something to decompress it. Not sure why they cant just use a .zip file like 99.9% of the computing universe :)

The settings are easy to change from the PC program interface but the myriad of button pushes to try and change them on the glasses themselves defeats the simple purpose of POV(In my humble opionon)

They are heavier and less comfortable to wear than normal sun glasses but not to bad. I am currently not able to ride so I have not tried a helmet test with them.

THE BAD

You have no way of knowing if they are turned on or recording without taking them off as the LED's are all out of sight. They really NEED some kind of audio warning or the LED's visible to make it easier to know if you are actually recording or not. I missed a whole 30 minutes that I wanted to record because I thought they were recording but were only switched on.

Still cant figure out how to change the lenses and again no instructions, I really dont want to force them or break them. Will wait for some feedback from tech support

Quality of the video is pretty good. I put this together totally filmed with the glasses. Best part is most people have no idea you are filming

Just like a GoPro or a cell phone, or a camera, or...

Mirror? Not sure if they are on the side or the front.

Well dont say it is "like a memory stick" :teeth they could word their documentation better

The LED's are on the left side arm

very cool little device!

but yeah 350 kinda puts it out of my price range. and yes i'll bet they are heavy/bulky, and lack of being able to tell if you are recording w/o removing them - is enough to put the nail in the coffin for me

when they are 150$, and the above setbacks have been dealt with - i'm game

Pretty sure I don't want any blinking lights in my eyes as I'm riding, but one front facing would be a nice option to check in the mirror. Then those that want to record incognito, can just put some black tape over the LEDs.

Awesome! Thanks for the review. How does it compare to a GoPro or Contour? Are they worth it to you for the convenience?

The contour is much easier to use. well the newer one with the single switch on the top

If there was someway to tell if the glasses were on and recording WITHOUT taking them off to look at the LED's then they would be VERY cool.

A micro sd slot for a 32GB card and a stereo headset jack for a good pai of earphone would be good to:thumbup

My problem is I don't like wearing glasses while riding, I much prefer my smoked shield or a flip down sun visor which I will have on my next helmet.

One of the reasons I bought the Recon model was that I can wear just the frame with no lens's fitted :thumbup

Nice it doesn't have that shitty gopro rattle sound (yes I use the white thing a ma jig it comes with).
I wonder how long is battery life. Can't be a very big battery.

What? Is that what that white thing is for??

A sample of what the glasses can do, my first time on a bike in 12 weeks :teeth

Excellent Alan. Is this with visor down? Pretty sure it is since I saw some glare.
Pretty good sound for viros down.
I like them.
How was the weight?

How was the weight?

Visor was up and down during the ride, visor down on the freeway at about 3mins

The weight was fine and the fit inside my helmet was fine as well. I did not feel them being "crushed" into my skull

pretty much like wearing normal sunglasses while riding. I was impressed. Now I need to get back to race fitness so I can test them on the track :teeth :ride

Very cool. Any comments on ease of uploading video and battery life?

Ease of uploading is just like copying a file from 1 folder to the other. i just dragged the file from the folder on the "glasses" right into Movie Maker

Have not really tested the battery life to much because I have been turning them off between the times I am actually recording or taking pictures with them :thumbup
