Police Agency exams never fail to surprise me.

Oh, the number of new recruits I have trained who had college degrees and still had MAJOR report writing issues....I tell ya. :(

What type of degrees:twofinger

There were college grads in my academy that made me question the education system.....

My comments are probably slightly biased - I have an engineering degree from Cal Poly, SLO.

Believe it or not, some people are actually motivated by serving their fellow man and helping to make a small dent in crime,

Yea know, here's what motivates me. If someone is robbed at gun point and screams for help "SOMEONE JUST ROBBED ME OF MY $100 in my wallet, SEND THE POLICE HELP, HELP, HELP" (sparing the jokes aside) they are going to get help.

Now, if someone is embezzling hundreds of thousands of dollars (even millions and millions), and that same victim screams for help, well, it ain't coming any time soon, and when it does there has been given ample opportunity for the offender to get the hell out of dodge or hinder the discovery phase of the investigation.

I see it over and over again. By time it gets to the police it's the victims that have pretty much investigated all the critical evidence. The victims hand it off to the Law on a silver platter. THEN they get help.

I can be sooooo effective it's comical.

Why would anyone want to rob someone at gun point when they can steal $800K and only get 3 months. Fucking A!!!!!!!!!! I'm not exaggerating (this is a personal experience).

Now, somewhere along the line if I'm out and about in a patrol car I would think at least one little old lady is going to be embezzled from, and I'm going to be right there and stop it COLD!!!!!!!!

When it comes to my income, I don't care, I have a mortgage obligation. If I don't pay that I have other problems and I'm not ever becoming a LEO. If I get a reserve position and I take that little old lady's report, and I'm still a financial professional then maybe I have the best of both worlds.

In the mean time I recommend criminals get enough education so they can put themselves in a position to embezzle verses rob. The pay off is astronomically better, and if they keep at bay their greed and get out of dodge before anyone finds out they are going to get away scott free. :teeth:teeth:teeth:teeth

Then you are going into the wrong career. Police officers enforce laws, they don't determine what the punishment is or sentences are for the crimes.
And most of the time people don’t even know they were embezzled from until it’s already happened and some time has passed.

So all in all I was rejected for a job that didn’t even cover gas money to and from work. I have a reserve interview next week for one that does. However, I think this on is militaristic. At least they have a penchant for ribbons and medals. Their website has pictures of the command staff and they have rows of military like campaign ribbons running above their left pocket. Also on their website are the explanations of what all of those ribbons mean, and the hierarchy of the ranking system (which is rather detailed). There is a pecking order, and it is branded on their uniforms. This is also a smaller agency, so I get the impression they are over glorifying themselves.

Can anyone guess who I am talking about :teeth

Yeah, I can guess...Greenfield PD. And if I can figure it out relatively quickly, your background investigator may be able to learn about your comments on a public forum.

Some friendly advice? You may not want to bad mouth (or even lean in that direction) a potential employer, even if it is for a reserve position. Your definition of "over glorifying" themselves may be to the Chief, Captain, etc. departmental pride and they may not take too kindly to your post. Just something to think about, Ace.

Have you considered a career in corporate security or investigations? They hunt down embezzlers all the time. You seem to have the experience in finance and reading your posts makes me think you'd be happier in that field.

Good advice.

So does BI also require that all candidates provide all of their usernames on all internet forums?

Asking because there's a LEO wannabe who's been sending me PMs, and I've asked him to stop (and he hasn't). He seems rather obsessed.

Try San Jose PD...they ask what porn u watch, every financial statement, websites, forums, myspace, family work place, banks u use, how many fights u were in, your grades, family arguments, tattoos, work history, driving record, arrest record, if u download music, if u own a webcam, shoe size, height, weight, sex, how many poeple u slept with, not to mention their addresses (no joke), your likes and dislikes, etc, etc, etc, etc, etc, etc....like bending over at the doctors office...:party

They want the right person for the job u know.

Our rough averages:

We advertise for open recruitment for on eofficer position.
200 people apply
150 of those applications pass the screening and are invited to the physical agility test
125 of those applicants pass and are invited to the written test
75-80 of those applicants pass and the top 30-40 are invited to the oral boards
10-15 of those applicants pass the orals and the top 5-6 are given background packets
Of those 5-6 two or three will pass the initial screening and background interview
Those 2-3 undergo a full blown background where we look at everything WHUWHAT mentioned and more
If we are lucky one of those applicants will make it through the background and be offered a job
Then that applicant/recruit is sent to the police academy where they may or may not pass the 6 month+ academy
Then the recruit/officer comes to us for a 20 week Field Training Officer program where many fail out

Start to finish from posting for an open position to actually having an officer on the street working solo patrol is over a year.

With that much time and effort spent on hiring an officer do you think we would skimp on the background and not be incredibly thorough?

Well, my question was really a ploy to get the guy to stop PMing and maybe start dealing in reality and hard facts instead of his imagination and gossip. But the fact that he went on and on in his PMs informs me he is comfortable in his immaturity. (And JPM, you are too funny. :p)

Still I will ask this one other question: For guys and gals who might be good in answering questions adroitly and appear and sound normal and healthy, and yet their private thoughts are disturbingly juvenile and out of step with so-called police training (dealing with facts, evidence, interrogations/interviews, and occasionally informed "gut" instincts instead of hearsay, fears, suppositions, and anger), how do you screen for that?

WTF? Who the hell was grading the reports?
Brian
Clearly someone that knows the difference between a minuet and a minute. :rolleyes

The agency shall remain nameless, but I’m scheduled to take the entrance exam and the entire examination process consists of a singular essay which candidates are only given 15 minuets to complete.
