Porn vs. Nudity: Why is nudity so often referred to as porn. Somebody somewhere started the premise that nudity is somehow pornographic.

It seems like most people don't know the difference.

Perhaps some of you can post up examples to demonstrate the differences.

:laughing just what we need...

i'll tell you right now, chances are very high the thread will be locked or removed if anyone starts posting examples of either.

personally i don't have a problem w it but i'm just the hall monitor in this school

I hope that your improvement is continual, Mackey. Visualize your good health, I will do the same.

Given its considered Art. There is always Critics :p

Culturally some aren't into nudes. Its interesting those same cultures are the most restrictive on women.

Heh too late :Popcorn

I think the difference is Art takes some effort and talent. Porn is just click away, without any tenants of good photography.

This whole recent "porn" issue here is a joke and is not reflective of a progressive community. I'm sure the religious fundamentalists are enjoying their moral high ground.

two thoughts about this.

first: i am generally dismissive of Euro's and their snobbery towards the US but at least they're not ashamed of the human body. we all have one, right? what's the big deal?

second: then i remember that the majority of the US is morbidly obese and it makes a little more sense.

:dunno

I think the issue here is how various countries sex. The US despite having it on TV in every sitcom on every channel do not embrace sex like other countries do. It's a forbidden fruit. Other countries specially those in Europe are more comfortable about sex early on with their children and culture so I dont feel it is as taboo over there as it is here.

Perfect example: I went to a catholic high school and one day we had a presentation on sex, abstinence and the like. The school would not allow them to pass out condoms.

To me that is kinda what the US does. They will shove it in everyones face but not be realistic about it and accept it.

Not sure if I made sense.

The culture of American self-righteous indignation when it comes to nudity is pathetic, yet we have the largest sanctioned porn industry on the planet flying under the radar.

Nudity: Naked human body. Beautiful to look at, admire and enjoy. Ultimately, a passive experience.

Porn: Naked human body engaged in a sexual activity. Depending on your proclivities, beautiful to look at, admire, enjoy and used as inspiration for fapping. Ultimately, an active experience.

So, if I see something naked that's lovely and admirable it's nudity. If I see something naked that's lovely and admirable and it makes me want to touch myself it's porn.

There, issue resolved. :laughing

The difference between porn and nudity isn't so black and white. A picture of a naked woman standing still on a beach is art to most. A picture of a naked woman on a beach holding a dildo is not. The context of the picture greatly alters peoples perception of it.

I was living in Cincinnati, Ohio during the Mapplethorpe Porn trial. Clearly there were people in that city who felt like even Playboy Magazine was pornography. They still feel that way. Its only been in the past 15 years or less that you could even buy a Playboy magazine in Hamilton County, Ohio.

You can never get people to agree completely to a single definition of pornography, nor art for that matter.

Porn is used to make people happy in a way that's kinda the opposite of how art makes people happy...or sad.

my $.02

porn = we'll sometimes pay to see em nekkid..

nudity = we'll sometimes pay to keep their clothes on...

It's in the motivation. A naked baby on the beach is fine. Naked adults on the beach are a little questionable, but if that's your thing, rock on. But a skankily-dressed 12 y.o. girl with a thong showing at the mall is trashy. Bad for the moral fiber of society?

What was the saying about nudists? That when most people see naked people, they think about sex, but when a nudist sees naked people they think of volleyball.
