Yesterday we celebrated our 40th by doing a scotch taste test and then walking to nearby Willi's Wine Bar for dinner.
6 of us taste tested the Highland Glenfarclas 12, 25 and 40 to see if we could ID which was which and which was our favorite.
Not a "blind" test as we did not wear blindfolds but could see the scotch in 3 identical shot glasses and only I knew which was which the first run and my wife was ref for the second run which was just me.
Son in law was the only one of six people to get them all right.
Brother in law liked the 12 best, which was my result in our JW scotch taste test years ago.
5 of six thought the 25 was the 40 so there you go. 12 is around $70, 25 around $250 and 40 about $1100 minimum. The latter obviously an extravagance for our 40th.
If you want to be extravagant the extra $850 between the 40 and 25 was not worth it but the $180 jump for the 25 was in a "not often" kind of way.
But I kind of assumed that result to be honest and we will only be that extravagant on a bottle that once; never again.
We've had that bottle of 25 for over ten years.
As I was setting up Kato the cat knocked over a shot glass of the 25.
He did not lap it up!
