I can certainly play scales and in fact the layout of pipes in organs are sometimes chromatic, sometimes whole steps and sometimes in minor thirds. The key holder will play the appropriate scale to match the pipe order so the tuner isn’t running back and forth to follow the pitches.

We have had organists on staff and while it’s gratifying to hear some music on the instrument, I don’t need to hear that to know it’s in tune, regardless of temperament. Voicing is another matter, because when voicing, you’re setting the tonal balance of the various stops and you do need to hear them in context. Voicing is not a regular activity, being done during tonal finishing of a new build and once in a great while on an existing instrument.

This is all extremely interesting. It's a weird niche someone would find themselves doing. But knowing who you are over the past years, I'm not surprised it's something you would wind up doing.
 
It’s an extremely weird niche. For a person with broad interests, it has all the food groups: woodworking, metal working, electrical and electronics, pneumatics, acoustics, leather working and music theory to some extent. A shrinking market and a dying art, but it’s been fun to learn about it.

All of this makes sense given your unique talents. And it's not my intention to toot your horn, just recognizing an odd past time/skill.

I recently heard that john travolta made more money off negotiated a piece of both the saturday night fever soundtrack and the grease soundtrack than he ever did acting. Genius move... especially for the time.
