OK... I oiled some rollers/joints on my 20-year-old floor jack...

checked oil... haha yes indeed it is very low on oil . I guess I'm buying hydraulic jack oil tomorrow!

Should I try to "suck out" the old oil ?!

I’ve had a hydraulic floor jack for longer than 20 years with no oil loss. It would be good to figure out where the oil went, as it doesn’t just evaporate. If it got past a seal, I wouldn’t trust it without replacing the seal or the jack itself.

yeah, I think this is where the oil went over the years. On the 1/2" rod/piston that's under the Hand Lifting-Handle? There's this big nut and the rim of the nut was all black, I wiped it.

here's the oil-filler hole itself... first time ever opening this up. However, I forgot if I already wiped the jack by that moment --- the pic SEEMS LIKE I DID... so we can't see too much residue around it.

I mean, I do also put jackstands if I'm under the car though. I Think. Maybe once ever I "forgot"... and maybe on each wheel change I may not have used jack stands... so much for trusting.

Probably failing o-rings. Depending on the brand of jack, there might be a rebuild kit. Otherwise, if you can get the old o-rings out and mic them, you should be able to find replacements.

Personally, I wouldn’t use a jack that is visibly leaking oil.

Life's short, don't make it shorter with a bad jack 😆

On break from watching packages move around.

Good morning.
Today’s mission is finding batteries for my mom’s hearing aids. I need to help set up her house and find a rehab facility.
Tomorrow W goes in for surgery and mom will have to be on her own. I want to call Melissa, my step mom is melting down and I don’t speak New York Jew so feeling battered. I know that came out wrong, just that I was raised up in Virginia and it’s a different communication style for sure.

Well , enlight of so much doom and gloom, fog and low on oil jacks, I might just make espresso with milky froth and enjoy that one bit of personal goodness.

I will refill the jack with oil and see where it leaks.

There's some aftermarket company for seals down in long Beach. 🦭

Sigh, sadly I might have to buy a new jack for my wheel rotations or eventually (?) brake change. Not what I need?

If someone was wondering, why didn't I just get that HF jack we talked about three-days ago--it's because I read its specs-- I needed it to lift higher (like my old one in the picture, it actually lifts higher than the $89-99 Harbor Freight) ... so I still need to choose a different model.

I'll tawk to the mashugina anytime.
Don't melt with her.
NY Jew can sound, well, critical and envious.
One of my favorite clients is an Orthodox Jew from Brooklyn. I deal with many folks from the NYC area, and he is always kind, sweet, and relaxed. The rest of the NYC folks? Not so much. :laughing

I am learning that the tone and words are not intended to be as harsh as I interpret them. My step cousin Nat has mitigated a lot of it and I am learning, the more I learn the more I smile inside. Nothing said I love you like a few fucking fucks from someone close.

Hang in there G...

Remember, with old people, like most things in life, Yoda said it best.

Fear leads to anger
Anger leads to hate
Hate leads to suffering
Suffering, leads to the darkside.

Don't let her anger and hate get to you as she deals with her fear of dying, losing control and freedom, or the ability to walk again.
