Good morning! Did you light the last candle yesterday Melissa? That makes today the last day of Hanukkah.
 
yes the miracle is almost over! I lit and prayed in the only Hebrew I can speak which is the Chanukah prayer.
Doing outreach at the LGBT+ center later in the afternoon today. Should be cozy!
 
Is her health ok?
Do you guys celebrate Christmas? I will be going to neighbor's house on the day of.
I will be working the 24th.
 
She’s Jewish so we lit the last candle yesterday evening. Overall she’s very healthy. She’s a tiny, angry, lesbian, Jew born and raised in Queens. I lover her dearly and have watched her humbled through much loss.

One positive thing in 2025 is I won a hard fought battle and along with the lump sum benefit from mom’s pension, we were able to get the full pension benefit that would normally pass to a spouse. This a very big deal.

Me too. My family hasn't done a full blown Christmas in years. A lot of us are pretty scattered so if we can get enough people together to fill a dinner table, that's good enough for us.

Last time I did anything big for Christmas was secret santa gift exchange a few years in a row with my local south orange county friends. And one year we hosted a christmas party at my house for all my college alumni friends, near and far. But as far as buying a tree and decorating it with a bunch of presents under it, nah that's been at least a decade ago, maybe more. It became a thing where we just tell each other what we want and someone buys it for them. As opposed to just gift shopping for things you think they would like and surprising them. I mean as a kid my parents would do both. Ask me to make a list with no guarantee I'll get all of them but didn't know which ones until that morning and a bunch of scattered things they thought I'd want.

Oh and office christmas parties but I don't count those. Those are just fun chances to see who can't hold their alcohol or did something scandalous. :laughing

Pretty much ANY holiday I view as a great opportunity to see friends and family who I haven't seen in awhile. I don't really identify with the reason for any holiday anymore other than that.
