On my daily commute from Concord to SF, I encounter so many people tokin it up in their cars that I have to ask if you Moto LEO's ever catch these guys in the act when splitting through traffic. It smell it so often when I am splitting, maybe 5-10 times on my way home, that I am curious if you guys ever sneak up on their stoned asses and bust them? I can imagine these busts may be a daily occurance.

I've often wondered the same thing. Thursday or Friday afternoons on a nice day... it's everywhere. :laughing

Also I wonder... does being stoned impair one's ability to drive like it does with Alcohol? Should I take a trip to Colorado to investigate? :teeth

only good thing i can say about pot smokers in cages.

they do not thrown there lit buts out the windows.

.

They're just taking their medicine. No harm...... right?

I just hope they are not stoned enough to pull in front of me. People already have enough issues with this being straight and sober. I do not have any issues with the weed, except when driving and smoking are combined.

It is true, there are people 'taking their medicine' while they drive home from work. However the number of people driving HUA while messing with their phones (hands free or not) are more of a concern to me.

It seems to have reached epidemic levels, and someone impaired, with slow reactions, is still better than someone not looking - no stimulus and no reaction.

While it would be great to ban the lot of them, IMO the phoners are worse than the stoners, and possibly the drunks too, though not sure on that last one, I guess it depends how drunk.

ive never felt in danger when getting into a car with someone that habitually smokes marijuana and is under the influence. if someone is drinking alcohol, i wont even get in the car with them regardless of their tolerance or if someone rarely smokes marijuana and wants to drive i would advise against it.

hell, drunk people can barely walk. stoned people walk really slowly and cautiously which translates to their driving ability.

not trying to justify or advocate smoking and driving, i just dont think its as big of a problem as drinking and/or distracted driving.

I worry more about the average DWS driver (driving while stupid), than I do someone toking something. Stoned drivers are more likely to be paranoid & be more careful I would guess?

Plenty of people die due to driving while stoned every year, sometimes its not just their passengers that die.....

What about the stoner who is using his phone????

You know that is next.....

True. Probably already happening. That is just double trouble. Bring on self-driving cars.

Yes, software has bugs, but at least someone will be driving the damned car then. At the same time make the driving test 10x harder so those who truely want to drive are much more skilled, and the unwashed masses can just leave it to the software.

So back to the original question... Do y'all ever bust them? I know your not supposed to take lots of other medications while operating machinery.

So, if someone gets busted for driving and smoking dope, excuse me, medicine, do they typically fight it, and throw some big smokescreen (harhar), about thc levels in their blood, and lawfully being below the legal limit (there are no standards, yet, are there?)?

Our DA won't even charge Marijuana DUI. There are set limits that a person can have in their blood for drugs, just like BAC for alcohol. X number of micrograms per milliliter depending on the drug.

Also remember that possessing marijuana in the vehicle or smoking while driving is different than DUI. For DUI you have to prove a level of impairment through driving observations and sobriety tests. It's hard to get good DUI driving observations in a traffic jam.
