PSA: Update your iphones/ipads, and avoid public wifi on OSX for now

Someone please update the subject...it's a bit misleading.

You can use OSX just fine...with Chrome or Firefox, since neither uses the built-in validator.

Just don't run Safari, and really, who still runs Safari, anyway?

I do. Or did anyway.

My personal email is gmail, my work email is gmail, and there is a joint venture spec thing that I maintain for which the account is also a google account.

Chrome makes it account switching easy if it's contained to a single tab, but say you have google drive in one account in one tab, and want to have google mail for another account in another tab; it will sign you out of the other account. :party Another browser is an easy solution to that (though I'm all ears if there's a better way).

you just create a separate chrome account. each chrome account logins into google as a different user.

You can switch between two easily if you fire up another Chrome window in private mode.

Beyond two you either have to let Google link the accounts, set up multiple Chrome profiles, or use another browser.

Like .. "virtually"... every single person with an iPhone or an iPad?!?!?!

But, you are correct otherwise "Anything that uses the Apple provided validator is affected".

This!!! haha ...

Chrome's been available on iOS for a couple of years now. It's nice to have tabs synced between all my machines and devices.

Could this explain why the names of folders on my macbook have changed to weird characters over the past couple months??

Probably your HD is starting to go. A portion of it got corrupted.

I don't understand? My Apple product was sold to me being impervious from hacking and viruses? WTF! :mad

It's MS and Android conspiracy bro, don't listen to the rumors your fruit product is perfectly safe. :laughing

Nooooo! I've been clinging to iOS 5.x for so long. I don't LIKE the new iOS :madI bet it's a ploy to take my native YouTube and google maps away :x

Stay away from untrusted public WiFi and you'll be alright.

You might be okay. They actually managed to introduce this between OSX 10.8 and .9. While iOS 6 is affected, I'm not sure that anything older is.

I always use a VPN on my devices when using public wifi as it helps to avoid all of these issues. Anywho, it's moot as it was fixed in the 10.9.2 update yesterday..

if your vpn uses apple's SSL library then you'd be exposed to the bug; but you're right it's moot since you've upgraded.

Security flaw != Virus.

I know, man. I think it's hilarious that there's a huge botnet of mac machines that nobody addresses because they think they are impervious to all sorts of malware. The type of people who use them don't know the difference.

JFYl, my update of the MACos to like 10.9.0.2 "Super Flying Cat "*, went through successfully. Thanks to above who mentioned the .02 is out for the macos, too.

* kid you not I told that to someone today when asked "what's the latest OS" .. it was quite funny

the ipad's update to 7.0.6 two days ago also went through fine, but I heard on the net one of my friend's phone got bricked. uh oh

The iPad I had was already on 7.0.x before this update
