Quick Strap goggles

I have been able to use a hair drier to remove the sticky thing and reapply it on a new helmet. I have not had much of a problem with it getting torn off much, maybe twice in 10+ years. It takes a little patience to place the velcro in exactly the right spot so that you have the perfect amounts of tension. I like it so I can attach it loosely to allow air to pass under them sometimes, and tighter when it’s dusty. I should also add that when you ride with them dangling it tends to scratch the lenses as they bang against the helmet and what not.

One of the best tools I ever bought was a heat gun. Much better than my wife's hair dryer. Great for heat shrink tubing, removing stickers, drying parts etc. Really cheap too.

Unrelated to the quick strap topic, but...

so as not to make another thread, I'll just add in a tangent:

How much life do you typically get out of a pair of goggles. I'm new to dirt, and so far I've gone riding 24 times (Metcalf, Hollister mostly) with hour-meter showing total of 38 hours. I hand washed my 100% goggles in the sink tonight and looks like the foam is just starting to separate a little bit on the top. Is that typical? Keep using them or buy new ones to avoid dust in the eyes?

I always have to retire my goggles because the face foam gets too disgusting and/or breaks down.

I don't know how long they last because I have different pairs I switch around. But, yeah, it seems my experience is pretty much consistent with yours.

I got a pair because I wear glasses under my goggles. Problem is I can't see detail on my GPS with my glasses on (I'm nearsighted). With these I can remove the goggles, lift up my glasses to see my GPS, then put everything back in place. While moving. Impossible with regular straps.

Downside is taking them off at speed (I'm wearing glasses, so still have eye protection). They flop around like crazy. Have to stop and remove them completely.

How about some prescription goggles with tear aways?

I bought a set, I'll see how I like them at American Supercamp this weekend.

I really like my QuickStraps. Had the glue bit come off only because I hastilly installed them without reading the directions.:facepalm

You can set them up for a right hand or Left hand hinge.

Thats about what I get out of my goggles. 50ish hours. I'm pretty gentle with them when washing. Use warm, not hot water, and dont wash them out unless they really need it to help them last. Perhaps the uber expensive ones last longer.... I dont have experience with them or the budget. :laughing Scott Hustle's are my current ones. A step up from the ultra budget ones, but not crazy expensive.

Just as a note, it your hot water is like mine... its can hurt the foam glue on your goggles and air filters. Learned the hard way, warm water only now. :x

they worked great

I didn't read the instructions as far as sides go and ended up putting velcro on the right, clip on the left. I think that's backwards of what people generally do.

I then proceeded to trash that helmet this weekend, and am trying to decide if I should swap sides on the new helmet.

Opinions?

Yeah you want the velcro on the left so you can hold the throttle with your right hand. You can get a cheaper re-mount kit with velcro and tab.

why do you want to be using the velcro rather than the clip? I could work the clip fairly easily with my left hand.

It is supposed to swivel on the clip and Velcro is QUICK and easy to un/mount.

I've seen various people wearing these. They seem convenient. Any real downsides? Brand suggestions?

it basically comes down to personal preference.

i used to use them when i was younger.

but later changed and i don't like them anymore.

i could site many reasons for it. but doesn't really matter since it's personal preference.

I'm a fan, been using them for 15+ years. Had them on 5 helmets so far, always carry an extra new Velcro side in my gear bag. In really hot days I've had the vercro sticker peel off. But it only happened twice in all that use. And I love the ease of use and practicality. Especially when I'm tiered and overheated and still dealing with a technical section.
