I would think any bike with decent pillion legroom and a low seat (so that weight isn't up too high) would be just fine to pick up one's boyfriend, or any other large or male passenger.

There is nothing wrong with that exhaust layout.
BMW engine Engineering knows what works and why.
It would take more typing, than I care to do right now, to explain how this works.
