*#@** RACCOONS!! :mad

I was on a hunting/camping trip one time and a buddy showed me how to prepare racoon.
You skin it out, remove the scent glands, smother it in butter, beer and garlic powder.
Find some fine creek mud and layer that on until it about 2 inches thick.
Put the bundle next tto the camp fire and cover with hot coals.
After a couple of hours, pull it out
Crack open the bundle, throw out the racoon and eat the mud.

The little pricks did the same to my grapes. I was watching the grapes every day to harvest at just the right moment. How the fuque diid they know I was planning on harvesting the next day. They cleaned out the vines and left most of the grapes on the ground and it looked like they took one bite out of each grape and left the rest. I was willing to share but they had to be malicious and greedy.
I trapped and relocted 3 of the little assholes.

I was absolutely amazed that there was not a single grape on the ground (or vines) anywhere to be found. I just don't understand how there is nothing left behind. Truly bizzare!

For Kuro, note the little feet.

I spoke with someone today who was very involved in orphaned raccoons. He has offered to help relocate them legally. :party

We will start randomly leaving kibble and water in the giant dog crate getting them acclimated. Hopefully in another week I can start letting the cats have freedom again.

We were gone for one night and those 'coons took ALL of our grapes. I mean 100%, we had probably 25-30 pounds out there and you cannot find one single piece of a grape in the 70' row. It really amazed me that they were able to do such a complete job and so quickly. Must have had a bucket brigade of grapes to pull it off. Clever bastards!

their destructive tendencies can also be constructive. our first encounter with them started with the snails in our BA garden. we had a shit ton of them. we’re not into extreme pest eradication measures (no poison), so basically just lived with it. the raccoons eventually stumbled through and detected a feast. they came through and it was ‘crunch, crunch, crunch’. zero snails left. we were delighted and fed them to keep them around - until that became an issue (it was a nighttime carnival lol). most awesome thing though was we had a very rare (like 1 in 500,000) blond raccoon show up.

If you are kicking around in Marin, continue to be cautious. My Mom is telling me that Coyote's are taking a LOT of cats lately and she is no longer letting her cat outside after 3 of her nearby neighbors had theirs taken.

Marin Humane says Coyotes are WAY up right now.

If you need a backup option, you might ping https://humanecontrol.com/services/

have crossed virtual paths with Duane on the airwaves....they're based around Elkhorn Slough/Moss Landing.

Streak might clear that up quickly, but it would be pretty ugly.

at lest you're not being chased by a Ukrainian Combat Squirrel.

Late to thread. I had a raccoon shit in my pool. Figured I would trap it and move it to another area. NOT IN CA. It is illegal to move a raccoon, your trap needs a number from the Fish and Game Dept. If you catch one you must kill it on the spot. There are licensed trappers and they will bring out a trap for $300 and $100 each time he empties it. I just may do something and tell no one.

Below from Fish and Game. Raccoons are fur-bearing animals and fall under CDFG.

Daily Bag and Possession Limits
There is no Daily Bag Limit or Possession Limit for hunting or trapping raccoons in California. See 14 CCR § 464(b).

Warning shot!!! If you legally injure or trap a raccoon in California, you have to kill it immediately. See 14 CCR § 251.5(c).

Live Raccoons
In general, it’s illegal to import, transport, or possess live raccoons. One exception is with a permit from the CDFW and to meet any additional requirements by your city and county. If you’re allowed to possess a live raccoon, you have to meet minimum standards for the facility (e.g. limbs, nest boxes, caging, shelters, floors, and walls). See 14 CCR § 671 and 14 CCR § 671.3(a)(10) and (b)(2)(K).
