Regarding battery issue with mailbox...

Install a solar panel to mailbox. Wire through to sensor battery or connect to a charger device that trickles charge to sensor battery..

Yup. It's great to change the cooling/heating settings while driving away (it's often >100 in Fresno in the summer) then go back to usual cooling/heating when an hour away upon return and walk into a house that's comfortable.

Got that taken care of: the house came with an Ecobee Smart Thermostat - you can program it to turn the heating/cooling on and off throughout the day.

I installed 2 in my parent's house that I could control from across the country. They are in a home now, but were 89 and suffering from dementia so I made adjustments to fit their needs from 3500 miles away.
