RIP 5/22 Nicky has passed (was: Nicky Hayden seriously injured)

Not that this thread is the right place for this conversation, but the pic is random from the Internet. I do, however, fly the 60L and am Mike qualified as well with an S-70 type rating. Any other stupid questions start a new thread or PM me.

Just trying to break up the monotony.... PM sent

A good friend of mine is close with him and his family and I just got word he passed. It hasnt hit the news yet. Heart breaking.

RIP Kentucky Kid.

Hersey from third hand sources is not acceptable and considering the sensitive nature of the topic, you should not be posting it

To people posting Nicky's condition without having confirmed sources, please ask yourself why the need to be first with the information. I really don't understand why one would post information they don't know to be true.

Also, now it's almost midnight in Italy, where Nicky is now.

I might be wrong but I'd be willing to bet we won't hear any news for at least 8 hours.

There was quite a turnout back in 2005 at Laguna to see him win. My first time at a Motogp.
Oh, I was so pissed-off at damn American Rossi fans waving their 46 flags on the hill between 4 and 5, that I would stand up and wave my Stars and Stripes, so they couldn't see the riders when they were closest. Come on .... You can't root for the homies for one damn race? :x They would have moved, but I told them I would hound them till the checkered flag. (Just kidding .... on some of it.) :teeth

Sending prayers and good thoughts for Nicky and the family.

2005

There was quite a turnout back in 2005 at Laguna to see him win. My first time at a Motogp.

I was in Rio when they announced they'd be bringing it back to America in the Brazilian press, July 2004. I waited for the announcement then as soon as I saw the official release, got a place at the Travelodge on Munras Ave and great seats and stuff for the race. It's only fitting he won that race and the year after as well. It's too bad they don't run the race in Rio anymore (the Olympics 2016 complex was built on top of the track) and as for Cali, I still believe Thunderhill would be the perfect American GP track. I'm sure Scott Lavelle is following this as closely as I am as I am very curious to see how he comes out of it, given that I had a similar injury (as did Lavelle) in 1999.

Thunderhill will never be a gp track, unless willows and red neck nor cal becomes the next bay area $$$ pit

Nope; too far from anywhere...

Someone w/too much money (listen up SillyCon Valley "idle rich,") needs to build a 1.5 billion dollar track to rival China, etc. Long, fast, & Grand Prix oriented to attract MotoGP, F1 & TV. Maybe even Nascrap & other popular series.

Big enough, multi-use facility (add drag strip & high-banked ~1.5 mile oval), that's close enough to San Francisco f/the racers/crews to stay there, yet just far enough to get the land f/almost reasonable $$$.

I keep saying Alameda Naval Air Station would be a great place (due to views/proximity to SF), but no one's listening except GreenPeace buttheads. :thumbdown Maybe something in the bayshore area?

Good luck! :ride

Ever since this happened, I've been checking for news every couple of hours, not very encouraging to have so few updates (sign of really serious issues), also frustrated to read conflicting reports and statements. "He was riding in the middle of a group of 14 riders" to "riding alone and listening to music in earphones", to "rolling through a stop sign" to "driver not over the alcohol legal limit", "family issues statement on his passing". Fucking vultures... shitheads trying to step into the spot light for all wrong reasons...

C'mon Nicky, hang in there!!

Not me! I was lucky enough to receive one of the commemorative signed A-Star hats after the maiden Hayden win.

Me (and some other BARFers) were in the turn 4 suites, and WE were waving an American flag the whole race. Even got the flag signed by Nicky after the race. I'm still asking for a miracle.

I'm late to the thread. Nicky I wish the best for you, heal up soon.

Very cool stories of fans embracing a very cool racer.

And yes. A very cool hat. Think I will sport my Nicky hat today.

Just to keep the awesomeness of Nicky going.

The above is 2017.

Beauty in motion. Nicky looking awesome.

Below is from a long time ago when Nicky was 18 and won his first Nationsl flat track race. He stepped away from FT to chase a dream. He nailed it.

Likely he could have been a multi time AMA grand National champ, but I think he chose right.
