RIP Anonomous Squid on Highway 17

Ahhh, the great rearwheelslider! Back from banned camp again eh? Something says you'll be back in there again. But I'll address your trollish points anyways.

But you're right. I am a dick. I don't deny this. Never said I was going to run for political office.

Tell your fucking family of mechanics to come post on here. If they have the same grasp of proper spelling and punctuation as you do, then I guess you're right again...I don't write like a ASE certified mechanic.

As I said, this event today didn't teach me anything. I learned from the start what you can and can't do on public roads. I will continue riding the same 7-8/10ths pace I have been doing for over a decade.

And it looks like I posted again. So flame away you ass felching pile of shit. Maybe that last sentence is what a real mechanic is supposed to talk like?

RIP

:rose

nicely written Rob.

and backwheelslider, how many times do we have to BAN you before you get a f*cking clue? Troll! :rolleyes

how many miles do you put on a year? ive put on over 15,000 miles in almost a year, so dont start talking shit about how you dont learn, cuz i know i sure do. if my dad died on a bike(he is way better rider than i have ever met by the way), i would feel really bad, not just kinda bad like you said you would. soemthing tells me that youre not a die hard rider, mechanic, or man, so stop posting like you are such a good rider and like you dont need to learn anything else......

rws

oh and yes, thats how a wrech should speak you pussy......

Werent you banned? Multiple names just makes us ban subnets. Be a pal and knock this shit off before your whole geographic region is banned.

the rip's with the flower, he died because he was stupid, and if i died because i was stupid, i wouldnt want people posting how sorry they feel......

from now on, if you post another rip, you will get flamed by myself... including you frong......

rws

Hopefully your number is coming up soon...

wow, that is really not cool. but i will let it slide.

you dont even have a bike, so i know if i have a bike, and you dont, then the only one that has a chance of dying is myself. why do you post here? youre not a rider, and if you do ride, you dont put that many miles on it, so you prolly wont die. why bother you bikeless poser....wait, thats an oxymoron....

rws

whats youre name?

Damn. He won't be around to see it, but I'll still justify his post with a response.

I know its not cool, but guess what... I've seen three posts from you on here and I already don't like you. If I saw you laying on the side in a bloody pulp, the only reason I'd stop is to piss on your lifeless body.

You're right, right now, I don't have a bike. I sold my 2000 929RR about three months ago because I needed the money. I post here because I've owned motorcycles before and I did ride them. Putting a lot of miles on a bike doesn't make you competent rider, by the way.

Here's the kicker. Apparently you're not bright enough to look up and to the left at my username... :

EDIT: Sorry for the thread getting off topic.

Rob,

I always read your posts. Seems you're right on the ball here.

Those on this site that think crashing is learning should ask this guy what he learned...

Wait...too late.

CRASHING IS FUCKED UP!

I've done some stupid things and lived...I've obeyed the laws and been nearly killed.

You can be safe but you're never invincible. When your number is up, it's up. Recklessness speeds the process.

Everyone's number comes

But like my mom says

Don't go looking for trouble, it'll find you.

From now on when i pass by Bear creek Road exit i will think about the crash....:(

RIP fellow rider.
Thanks for posting this Rob.
I hope we all can learn from this tragedy, and not continue to treat the roads like our own racetracks.

I rode past it today too ... as soon as I came off of Soquel/San Jose and saw the stopped traffic northbound I knew there was an accident. I split slowly all the way down the mountain (including adventures like getting splashed in the face by windshield washer fluid by some cackling assholes in a SUV) and finally came upon the scene. The yellow bag was not a good sign (I couldn't see a body underneath) nor was the ruined Gixxer facing the wrong way with red on the tires. CHP taking measurements with orange spray paint on the ground summed it up entirely too well.

The 17 is a notorious road, and for good reason. It's cambered with an almost poetic malice and has the occasional random batch of deep and long grooves right in the most tempting corners (Big Moody Curve, for example) that are specifically there to fuck up your day. Don't forget the gaps in the barriers that let a few landbound cruise missiles cross over into oncoming traffic when they massively overcook a turn. Laurel Curve is a particular favorite; beware, northbounders! This highway in particular is a beast that is trying to hunt you down and kill you, moreso if you're an occasional visitor. It tempts and distracts with visions of beauty and glory, but has sharp claws at the ready.

From someone who's done the 17 roughly 3500 times (that's amateur hour compared to a number of people, but a few more than most reading this) ... the tourism traffic hours are exactly the worst possible time and place to choose to ride like an idiot. Most of the travelers don't know the road and are tired or distracted and either overconfident or scared. Use your imagination!

The aforementioned rider, may he rest in peace and his family be comforted, now knows a lot more than we do about what that specific environment can threaten us all with. I figure most anyone still reading this far into this thread or this post already understands and appreciates the risks involved in what we do. If not, not only are there are plenty of posts available to describe it in detail, but I'm neither "too good" for hooliganism (or other assorted stupidity, as sorrily as I ride) nor am I in a position to mother anyone.

What I stand by, however, is that that particular environment is one of the absolute worst fucking times and places to not have your shit squared away and wired tight. How that applies would vary for each of us, but it's something to remember the next time you're caught admist the beach bunnies and Valley families ...

Thanks for the great post and CHP coverage reminder too, Rob. You're probably right. I'm not sure where they're going to fit the other squad cars and bikes, but they're going to be there somewhere. Ah well, maybe it's my ass that will be saved (or fined) by the coming slowdown.

willbeezy -- I drop back into traffic all the time. I wouldn't feel bad about it at all. :thumbup Even if your spidey sense gives you a false positive, it only costs you a few seconds that you can spend checking out the girl stopped next to you. One time I even got to chill with a fellow Barfer ('sup Samson!) during a particularly bad morning on the Hill. :)

I had a front row seat to just how quickly a motorcycle can end a life in the wrong hands

Not exactly. HE ended his life. Actually, the guard rail ended his life-or the pavement. Actually, his reckless driving was the catalyst.

His lack of forsight and gear was a contributing factor.

It if was not a gixxer, it would be a WRX or pocketbike.

His behavior killed him.

There are enough safetycrats blaming motorcycles for everything from global warming to pollution.

This was not the motorcycles fault. They are designed to stay upright.

"Biker killed on Highway 17 curve

"By Edwin Garcia
"Mercury News

"A motorcyclist allegedly speeding Sunday afternoon on Highway 17 died after crashing into a guardrail, the California Highway Patrol said.

"The rider, a man whose identity was not released, was traveling north near Alma Bridge Road about 3:10 p.m. when he failed to negotiate the roadway's downhill left curve, the CHP said in a news release. Witnesses told officers the man was riding about 70 mph on that stretch of highway, which is near Lexington Reservoir in Santa Clara County.

"The rider flew off his bike after crashing into the east guardrail, and the motorcycle continued north for about 200 feet, the CHP said. Responding officers were unable to revive the rider.

"Both lanes of northbound Highway 17 were closed for about 45 minutes."
