Screw the JC, if you want to learn to play, go to your local music shop. They may have people there who give lessons or know someone who does. Not at 8am Saturdays. Real guitarists are not awake at 8am on Saturday.
Unless you're definition of a real guitarist doesn't include those of us that have an actual day job because we're not jaded and aren't always focusing on "making it", it's not unpossible.
Ah, that's legit. I don't want it as a teaching tool as much as I want to enhance the experience of playing songs like a fusion between the arcadey fun of Guitar Hero and the real thing.
Anything that inspires you to pick up the guitar and play it is a step in the right direction. I'm not a fan of video games, but if it helps, why not?
From the description, the software may deemphasize a lot of the skills guitarists rely on to learn or communicate music, but it looks like it will at least show you note sequence, location on the neck and timing.
You'll have the same issue I do; you'll quickly learn the tune by ear and then it won't be a reading exercise any more.
From time to time I've been practicing some of my son's violin pieces on guitar. It gives me something to read that I otherwise wouldn't and I can play along with him to help with pitch and time. He's already to the point where he can sightread faster than I can.
