Law officers hunt for bike-rally saboteur

Sheriff's officials say someone was intentionally spreading sharp roofing nails over Highway 84 on Sunday morning, allegedly trying to cause accidents and sabotage an annual motorcycle rally in La Honda.


Law enforcement officials say they removed the nails before they could cause any problems for bikers attending the annual “La Ducati Day” -- a major fundraiser for the La Honda Fire Brigade.


Sheriff's Lt. Ken Jones said the incident was eerily similar to last year's Ducati event, when an unknown person intentionally spilled oil across both highway lanes, causing at least six motorcycle accidents. Both hazards occurred along the 6000 block of Highway 84, also known as La Honda Road.

“We have no idea who might want to harm the motorcycle riders,” Jones said. “My only thought is that someone just doesn't like motorcycles going through town.”


Jones says his deputies have solid evidence to believe that the nails were not accidentally spread over the highway — by falling out of a work truck, for instance. But Sheriff's officials say they have no witnesses and little evidence to follow. A box that contained the nails has been sent to a crime lab to be tested for fingerprints.


“It'll be tough to find out who did this,” Jones said. “Luckily, no one got hurt this time.”
 
I would say the next time there's an event in the area, there should be scouts checking the routes and have check points to keep an eye out not only for the "saboteur...sabotager...sabater..the fucking asshole who's trying to fuck things up but also help keep the m/c image in a positive light by help policing our own and keep the speed down...

I took a couple to the old dome this afternoon while re-insulating my folks house.... Ouch.
 
Do they advertise La Ducati Day in the area, or would this person have to go out of his way to find out the date of the event?

But seriously, if an action like that isn't at least a misdemeanor, with any resulting injuries bumping it up to a felony, it needs to be. I can't understand the thought processes of some people. They'll intentionally try to harm individuals because of a little noise or traffic.

I wonder where these nails were laid out in relation to the oil.
 
There were the baggies of oil on the off-ramp, and there was the line of oil across the road. Both were no laughing matter.
 
Seems to me anyone knowing the identity of that rider is aiding and abetting a criminal. I’m fairly certain at least one BARFER knows. IIRC all six riders didn’t get any insurance coverage on their bikes since there was no other party involved.

Saving face, leaving a big fucking mess on the road and fucking over six of your own brother is the most fucked up thing I have ever heard of. Grow the fuck up and take responsibility for your actions.

I used to carry a small ziplock bag of rice hull when I rode in the hills on the weekends. It is very light and works well for oil spills.

I'm impressed. I guess everybody should carry some oil absorbent, I hadn't given it much thought.

The least the rider could have done was take charge of traffic control.
