Rude homeless guy

There's a reason most of these people are homeless. For one reason or another, they can't function in normal society.

I've offered food many times, only to be turned down. Seems that food is a no priority for most.:wow

anyway........looking forward to seeing you at my workplace tomorrow in Sacramento. Donate what you can and I promise it will all go directly to the sources of need.

I found a tough box full of old clothes that I no longer use. They are in very good condition still. Also, I have a bunch of toddler and baby clothes to give. I'm not sure if there are homeless babies and toddlers out there.

i hang out every few days with a crusty old dude who is beyond rude with everyone he comes in contact with, including those who try to help him. total fucking asshole. i asked him once why he behaved the way he did. he got quiet, looked at the ground and said he didn't mean it. and that he was just so frustrated and wished he were dead - and he asked me to put a bullet in his head. i somewhat ignored this, and asked him what his favorite candy was. he said chocolate mint patties. i asked if it would be okay if i came tomorrow, and brought him some. he was quiet for a bit, very thoughtful, and then said yes, that would be good. rude or not, i hope he keeps letting me in, and never truly gives up. i need him as much as he needs me.

what happens after he chokes the shit out of you?

no offense, took you serious, but now you are just being ridiculous. he's a super frail and rapidly failing old man. can barely stand, and his hands are useless stubs. not strong enough to even hurt himself. he was once a vigorous man - and he is heartbroken to be reduced to this. i feel like it is huge privilege to be there with him and for him during his most difficult days. and to make them as pleasant as possible.

I can't speak for anyone else, but I find your story and connection to this man very moving.

thanks so much. he was a merchant marine, and an old time dirt track racer. fantastic stories that no one would ever know. he never speaks of any of this except when i get him in a really good mood, and i ply him with his favorite candy lol.

So they are unfortunate because they chose to be alcoholics and drug addicts? Oh and some are homeless because they are 290 registrants (sex offenders) that cant find job. I hope you don't think they were put in that unfortunate situation .

caideN: 99.99% of the "homeless" are exactly as you say. They choose to be homeless, and yes, the government does subsidize them.

Barfers spout a lot of nonsense sometimes.:twofinger

I hope you never have to go through the horror of becoming homeless. Unless you're a fairly wealthy individual it could happen with one motorcycle accident.

Parenthetically, those who throw the most stones at people in misfortune tend to be people who think they're not worthy of the good fortune they are having. And that's all it is. Absolutely. I've been working all my life, made some good money, own my own house, worked 60-80 weeks for many years, and you know what? I consider myself very fortunate, not virtuous.

Ernie,
I think MrMarklin was being sarcastic. I'm conflicted by this. I totally get what you are saying and agree. If my paycheck stopped coming I'd be out on my ass. It is pretty scary out there and it doesn't take a whole lot to get that far.

On the flip side, there are so many scammers and fakes.

Ok. Missed that. There are many scammers and flakes. I laud the folks who give to any charity that helps people, or give at all.

I wish more people understood how fragile the social contract is in the US, and how much it is in the interest of the powers that be to keep it that way. Who is going to take a stand when it might mean losing a job and ending up homeless?
