Running over a fire hose--can a bike do it?

This is the kind of thing that makes me smile when I'm riding. Weight back, get on the throttle to keep the front light. Wheelie isn't necessary (but adds an extra level of fun). The best part is that a cop would be hard pressed to give a ticket for the wheelie as it really would be "for safety." Winning! :party

oh, yeah, i know- it's just that one dingbat does it, then other dingbats follow suit in a monkey see/monkey do fashion...problem is it's now more like the 100th monkey phenomenon.

Yes, and in SF people would rather try to thread their way through a fire scene with 6 apparatus than go around on the next block. :nchantr

First: I knew that riding over a fire hose was illegal, and was shocked at the number of barfers that did not realize that fact.

Second (and much more important): What is wrong with you people that would even consider riding over a fire hose? What if you damaged it? What if it burst, and the firefighters were unable to put out a fire? I am always shocked at the callous and selfish attitude of motorcyclists. The world does not revolved around you and your two wheels. /pissed.

I'm a fireman here in the city and not even I knew there was a law against it. Chances are nobody is ever gonna get cited for it. Hell the SFPD is hard pressed to cite a drunk driver. (Insert truck 1 joke here). Our hoses are pressure tested to 300 pounds for five minutes every year. A 3" supply line is likely to have less than 125 pounds in it and would never exceed that number when a car runs over it. We run em over all the time with our rigs anyway. They're extremely tough, and they get inspected regularly.

Rest assured, light traffic isn't going to be an issue and a motorcycle a non-issue. Your outrage is duly noted and appreciated. :thumbup

OP, thanks for using your head. Yeah, it's possible to safely roll over a 3" line. A fire scene is definitely not the place to try it, though.

Also, you can damage a hose line by running it over (eg; at the couplings, etc). Usually SFPD is pretty good at getting detours up whenever we need to block traffic.

Brother is retired OFD, his response... "Not sure if it's illegal, but it's preferred that you don't. We used to close the road if there was a hose in the street, anyway. Pretty sure the law just states you have to whatever the firefighters say because they're fucking smarter than you."

That's odd... a dude rolled up on to the same scene but reported the hoses as 6"-8".

yeah riding over a fire hose or going into a fire scene is really really stupid.
