Salt water reef tanks.

I have been wanting to set up a salt water tank for sometime and finally living in a place where I should be for at least 10 years. I have been reading a lot online, but do you guys have any shops you really like in the East Bay?

The best shops are in SF or SJ. I only know of Petco in Concord who sell sick fish and there's another place in Concord that charges almost double what you could get in SF or SJ.

Aquarium concepts in Dublin is cool, although I liked their Hayward location better. I'd say buy most of your stuff online/through other reefers, it is cheaper and you find cool frags to trade with other people.

I just wanted to go someplace to browse a little before getting started and talk to someone in person before I buy something.

I have been scanning craiglist figuring I can hopefully find a set up for a lot cheaper and maybe get lucky with some liverock and other stuff, but I would like to build most of it up myself. I am thinking I want to go with the 75-90 gallon range

the only place local to martinez concord and pittsburg is all about fish. They are overpriced for 90% of the live stalk. Some coral is decently priced but a lot is on the expensive side. The chemicals and other stuff like sand and live rock is about normal price.

Nice man, yea just get a drilled tank with overflow, lots of live rock, a good skimmer, lights, and you'll pretty much be set.

That place cut their size like half (Dublin) since last time I was there, and that's wehre the guy tried to sell me the eleventybillion dollar reef tank.

I seriously need to buy a hood for my tank. Firefish jumped out and killed himself. Wanted to go hoodless too so that I could have less CO2 in the water.

I had Tap Plastics make me a cover for the top of my tank a while bank. They also cut some 1/2" slots about 75% of the height of the cover, every 2 inches or so, to allow for some evaporation, but not enough for jaw/fire fish to jump ship.

I hope that made sense. :D

Selling off 77 lbs of rock, skimmer, transport jugs, and a tank that would be great for a big ass lizard or something. Tank was in a fire stemming from the sump but held water for a week until I drained it. You take your chances if you want to use it as a marine aquarium. You could also have it resealed just to be sure.
Anyway, here's the LINK TO THE AD.

Hmmmmmm. Interesting. How did your lighting situation turn out? I'm running normal output T-5s and my corals are barely thriving without the hood.

Sorry, I missed your post.

That particular tank is down for a bit, right now. I mainly ran it as a 'probation period' safeguard. Once newly added fish were able to acclimate (both mentally and physically) to their new surroundings, I would only run that cover for part of the time (usually at night).

As far as your corals and lighting, have things changed since you posted pics? How 'old' is the tank?

I heard jellyfish are a PITA to raise and you need a sump with live rock since you can't keep them with the live rock or they'll hurt themselves and they need pristine water or they die. I also heard feeding them is a PITA also since the tank can't have 90 degree corners or they get stuck and starve themselves.

This thread needs to be renamed the "Aquarium enthusiasts" thread because I just got some new stuff for my 12 gal freshwater and it looks pretty awesome right now. I'll post pics later.

Before my freshwater tank was all boring like this.
