San Diego Fire

psychochick, Has your company lost any homes in this mess? You're with an insurance carrier?

One lady turned on her roof sprinklers and left, running out the entire water system that fed ten homes, moron.

I love people. :|

If any of you have friends or relatives down there in the evacuation areas, tell them it's not worth trying to make a last stand on their house.

We have gone through and pulled all the files in the fire areas and we have approx. 500 risks in the regions and no claims as of yet, but we expect that to change once everyone starts heading back to their homes.

We have a couple of wind claims as of this mornin, but no fire.

Wow. 1993, My freshman year at Pepperdine we had near the EXACT SAME fire...

Topanga Canyon was threatened that year as well. Structures burned South of Malibu.

Where is "south of Malibu?"

The penninsula to the west, or further east along the coast?

My mom managed to flee with her dogs and some of her important paperwork; my brother couldn't get his bike loaded into his truck in time, and had to leave it. No word on whether the house was still standing as of this morning.

My grandparents' avocado ranch near Escondido has been completely burned over, including the two houses on the land. My grandfather bought the land and raised the family on it when he returned from WWII. My aunt, uncle, and three kids are now homeless.

:cry

Fuuuuck.

I'm sorry...:(

Hopefully these ppl are well insured, the agencies pay out, some construction goes down, and homes are back up in a year.

In Simi Valley where I live we have had ash raining on us off and on for about 2 days now and the winds have been over 70 knots, it took a section of my roof off, about 10 by 20

Four years ago this month, seven of us were on a ride and headed back to San Diego when the fires went out of control. Hwy 8 was closed at Alpine, it was beyond words. I can only imagine what the peeps in SoCal are going through right now. Prayers to them, and the folks fighting the fires and caring for the refugees.

jesus, that smoke shot is fucking insane! How do they even begin to fight something like that?!

They don't. :(

"Faced with unrelenting winds whipping wildfires into a frenzy across Southern California, firefighters all but conceded defeat Tuesday to an unstoppable force that has already chased nearly a million people away.

Unless the shrieking Santa Ana winds subside, and that's not expected for at least another day, fire crews say they can do little more than try to wait it out and react — tamping out spot fires and chasing ribbons of airborne embers to keep new fires from flaring."

Half a million people flee as wildfires continue to torch SoCal homes: http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/n/a/2007/10/22/state/n102418D66.DTL

My family members (brothers and their children/wife) have had to evacuate their homes.... my niece told my wife on the phone: "remember our old apartment that you guys came over for thanksgiving few years back...that whole complex is burnt out."

It is unreal what is happening down there.

They had to rush out and leave their homes 4 in the morning... they didn't take anything with them, no papers, no extra clothing, not even their cell phone chargers so when we call their cell phones now, we don't get an answer. They told us they are ok, so no biggy, but these are kinds of things that one has to have an emergency plan for.

My sister lives in area close to Qualcom stadium, and she said the grocery stores are just empty, due to the increase in the number of people in that area.

Arnie's telling everyone to get to the chopper.
