SF Pipe Crackdown

talking with a cop who was part of this crackdown, he was surprised how many of these weekend warrior yuppie bikers didn't have a motorcycle license at all and their reasoning was cuz they never ride outside of SF on the freeway...

so what did he pull you over for?

The simple way to avoid EVER being arrested in SF is to claim that you violated Federal law by ILLEGALLY sneaking into this country. Just say yer gay, and in yer homeland of asscrackenstan (or wherever) you are being persecuted............the DA's office will buy you a house and send you a written apology for stopping you, as you are in a "sanctuary city" (GAG!) :twofinger

Sneakin' By! :thumbup

:laughing

Got tagged a few years ago by a Walnut Creek motor cop, basically just a "check me out" stop, but he HAD to justify stopping me for SOMETHING (I'm white, so they couldn't use their normal reason), so he cites me for "non DOT exhausts. I fought the ticket, and when the officer arrived in the courthouse parking lot, I photographed HIS non DOT pipes (WCPD officers own their bikes, the city pays them to lease 'em, and when the lease is up they buy it out, so virtually ALL WCPD bikes have aftermarket pipes etc.) The judge refused to walk out and look at the officers bike, but I walked on a technicality. I guess what's good for the goose........:twofinger

Ha, ha, thanks for posting that! I usually wave at those guys on Tice Valley Blvd. because I'm the only guy doing the speed limit and it's like shooting fish in a barrel for them on enforcement days. Guess they might not be that friendly to other m'cyclists. too bad.

Like to see them get the dickhead down the street with the Road King with short straight pipes. Asshat has to warm it up for at least 10 minutes, too.

People who ride with loud pipes are basically saying "I don't care about anybody but myself. It does not bother me that I annoy people".

or they're delusional like the "Fags" on South Park.

This is terrible, how many will lose their lives due to losing their loud pipes. Loud pipes save lives, quiet pipes kill.:(

I recently switched from a very loud classic bike to a modern bike with very quiet stock pipes. I get cut off or have my lane space violated 3-4 times more often now.

Also, do we really want police to start impounding bikes for equipment violations? That's the beginning of a very slippery slope.

I was being sarcastic but I do agree with you as well.:laughing

I'm sorry your riding skill is linked to the loudness of your pipes, or the age of your motorcycle. Somehow, I've managed to never get cut off or have my lane space violated in the last 3 years, despite riding many motorcycles with stock exhausts, and racking up probably 50-60k miles across half a dozen different bikes...all running the stock exhausts.

Here's a hint: They can't violate your lane space if you're not near them.

Yes. If you have spent hundreds of dollars willfully modified your vehicle to be illegal, you deserve your impound.

if they start impounding for modified items whos to say what is impoundable and what isn't. I've gotten a fixit ticket for having a tinted visor in the middle of the day and on a separate time I got a fix it ticket for having a tinted double bubble wind screen. I got the wind screen because yes it looks nicer and I am able to read the digital tach and speedo on the bike where as with the stock clear one it would get a glare on it a lot more often. I for one would be pissed off to no end if my bike were to be impounded because I have a tinted wind screen.

I didn't notice any diference in lane violations or attempts on my life whether I was riding a CB1 (that has the exhaust presence of a singer sewing machine), or my Bandit (that sounds like a howitzer assault).

The way to get noticed is by knowing what blind spots you're in and getting out of them. Also realizing when you look like a space that a car wants to occupy.

Reach back to your hunter gatherer roots, if you don't look like food you won't get eaten :thumbup

Bummer, Since I switched to a Green ZX-10,(and..this is the first bike I've left the exhaust stock) people(even chicks) see me coming, stick an arm out the window with a Thumbs up, pull over to give me more passing room.

Cops quit pulling me over, and just flash their Amber lights, or do a double hand/fingers thing to say 55...

Things are so much better, now...maybe it's your BMW they don't like :laughing

Maybe you should consider if your mods are illegal or detectable before you do them.

Your double bubble isn't illegal because it's a double bubble, but because the tint is too dark. You could get a lighter tint that was still legal. And while the windscreen only affects you, the pipes affect everyone.

And I would have fought the BS tickets. There will always be bad cops, because cops are people, it's up to you to exercise and be informed about your rights.

Why are you posting your resume? Do you think it makes your opinion any more valid? Even though you've only been riding for three years and 50-60k miles, I still find it hard to believe that you've never been cut off.

I ride carefully in traffic, staying out of blind spots, showing myself to newly merged vehicles, etc, and it still happens once and a while. Having a motorcycle that makes noise that can be heard 2-3 car lengths ahead does provide an extra degree of visibility vs. a bike that makes almost no noise.

Where do you ride that you are never near cars? Maybe if I never commuted, never lanesplit, and never rode in an urban area I could pull it off.

OK, now clearly getting ticketed for a double bubble is justified, I mean really, a double bubble on a RC-51? :laughing

I painted the inside surface of my OEM bubble, yellow..the plastic makes it look Gold, the Gold looks right with the Kawi Green, and...the paint shades the light off my gauges so I can read them, and who gives a rip, clear or dark...no way am I looking through the bubble.

Either the cops down there have been on the firing line too long..Or..You were doing something that wasn't quite charge-able...but the cop felt like charging you with something.
