SFO plane crash (7/6/13)

how long do you think sfo will be shut down for?

how long do you think sfo will be shut down for?

I would guess at least 2 days to investigate and cleanup.

I wonder where inbound flights headed to SFO will divert to, SJO, OAK, SAC?

I don't think the airport is shut down. Probably down to 1 runway which means massive delays.

Dude, no.

They don't continue flight ops after something like this.

Especially given the runway spacing.

Still 1 or 2 runways open this just confirmed.

Closely spaced, intersecting runways? With equipment moving around?

I doubt it.

Technically available in an emergency? Yes.

Scheduling flight ops? Probably not.

Info wasn't from news was from pilot listening to the tower. Specifically said two paritcal lanes were open. Sfo is huge and its likely the 2 still open are nowwhere near the crash.

NBC news was just talking to some guy named Ralf, who was taking a break from jogging on a trail right near the start of the runway, and he said he saw the plane come in excessively nose high, and strike the tail on the ground.

Anyone who lse notice the the plain on the taxi lane next to the crash. Thats a lot of peopleto witness a crash.

Btw seems sfo is offically closed now.

Flights being deverted to oak, sjc, sac, lax

a pilot (not the one flying the 777) talked to an operations person at sfo and said plane came in too low; tail hit the "pier". apparently that's the structure at the beginning of the runway.

also there's a landing beacon to help pilots land and it was turned off due to construction.

lot of misinformation/bad information. story keeps changing.

There is a lighting gantry*, but there's also some rocks moved around. Tailstrike is looking more likely.

* In the 70s, a Pan Am 747 actually took part of the gantry with them on departure.

Were you listening to Ground? Someone probably has a plane full of passengers that's been sitting elsewhere on the airport for a while and would like to make it to the terminal now that they're not going anywhere.
