SFO plane crash (7/6/13)

Yeah and they are nearly 2 miles long. Planes where not taking off and landong next to the crash.

Anyways no point in agreuing your opinion vs a pilot listing to trafiic control.

You just can't be wrong, but, you're still wrong. Last NOTAM indicates the field is closed:

here's the tweet from the samsung exec:

most detailed report i've seen so far here:

http://globalnews.ca/news/698066/plane-crash-at-san-francisco-airport-reports/

hoping that's accurate and that everyone got out ok.

Closely spaced, intersecting runways? With equipment moving around?

I doubt it.

Technically available in an emergency? Yes.

Scheduling flight ops? Probably not.

Just curious, what purpose does it serve to close the whole airport? It isn't like they need every single airport employee to assist with the clean-up.

SFO offically closed to traffic at 1:10 pm

Suck it you twit.

If I looked hard enough I could tell you want plaens took off and landed after the crash.

Damn. Glad I flew in there yesterday. Coincidences like that make you consider never flying again!

They need space to deal with the emergency.

They also need to be able to move rescue and firefighting equipment around.

You know, without a plane crashing into a fire truck crossing a runway. Their operations staff are also way busier with other things (By now, ATC is being interviewed, etc.)

They're also probably shaken up, and asking people that just witnessed something like that to continue flight operations is unsafe and unfair.

Closing the field is the right move. There is no new incoming traffic, and for the folks already enroute, SMF/SJC/OAK/LAX can handle it. There's no argument for keeping the field open, and a lot to close it.

There have been many incidents since I've decided I never want to fly again, but never any close calls.
Although just yesterday I bought a ticket to the east coast, what can ya do too far to drive.

It's only too far to drive if there's an ocean between here and there! The drive isn't bad...I've done it 3 times; once by car, twice by motorcycle.

Was pilot an Asian?

What, too soon? :twofinger

Except the convenience of paying customers, you know the people who essentially pay their salaries...

Oh sure, they could land at OAK instead.......And pay a taxi $100 to take them to their car parked at SFO. :laughing Not to mention the thousands of people who will miss a business meeting or family event or whatever.

People always say big deal, those are small inconveniences. And they are, but when it affects thousands, it's a different story.

I can't remember how SFO is configured, but most major airports have runways on multiple sides of the terminal complex. Meaning that emergency crews running between the complex and the crash are only going to disturb a portion of runways, not all of them.

Oh, there may have been a couple, but you were implying the airport was business as usual, and that just doesn't happen. I see lots of diversions:

Life safety trumps whiny ass customers that complain anyway.
