SFO plane crash (7/6/13)

pretty much , if you run into the ground , you're flying too low.

Just got home after 16 hours straight of dealing with the plane crash and also with another 5th alarm structure fire that happened in town later that night. Props really go out for the crew of the plane who got everyone off quickly before things started to go up in flames. Many people were hurt, but the majority will survive and that's a win for everyone. We will see as to the investigation with the plane.

I'm off to bed.

How many flights happened worldwide since the last crash?

Chicago prob had 1,000 homicides last year, headline at bottom is kind of interesting.

I looked and that plane was prob $300M to buy. Whoops!!!

No idea, but I was surprised to hear this was the first fatal airline crash of a major airline jet (not a commuter plane) in the U.S. since 2005.

Could have been so much worse had they hit the wall in the fuselage... It appears the Pilot did a good job last minute to correct his fuckup or whatever went wrong. Will be i teresting to watch unfold, especially since the plane is so intact..

Yea. Makes for a nice media frenzy "airplane crash", gets the sheep all excited, but it's super minor compared to the deaths from other things each day. I wouldnt even stop to look.

I think its more fascination of the catastrophe. I'm very intrigued to understand the "why" the pilot was so step on his approach. They dont let $300M planes with massive amounts of liability get flown by someone without some serious experience and skills. Plus, there were two or three of them at least...

I'm thinking the pilot came in too slow or with too much of a rate of descent or both. Passengers have said that they felt the pilot throttle up right before the crash. It takes a few seconds for something that big to respond to flight control inputs. The pilot hit the gas too late. It's most likely pilot error.

We are all speculating at this time. Could be pilot error. Could have been a mechanical issue. Usually when something like this happens, there are multiple factors that contributed. The glideslope was out as Marlowe pointed out, that could have been one factor, although that alone shouldn't be an issue especially in good weather.

I would think you would have a bit more sympathy for something rare, unlikely to kill you, but one can still find frightening despite knowing all of the above....

Yes but they are nowhere near as smart as the smartest of BARF

Interesting how when those Bar Pilots and that cruise ship Captain rammed the ships into pilings and such in the Bay the first focus was on the Bar pilots and, if I'm not mistaken all ended up in court, but their "views" were the main focus of initial stories.

In this case nothing but crickets about the pilot, or his view on the crash, just meager facts that he was one of Asiana's most experienced pilots.

Will be interesting to find out what the co pilot says, that's for sure.
