Skydiving!!!! Let's Go!

I'm totally down for it, and I'll bring Rochelle... keep me in the loop!

I went to the DAVIS tandem before, and the scenery wasn't that cool. It was just a bunch of fields.

Can we do tandem at Monterey or Santa Cruz instead? There we can see the beautiful ocean!

For Davis, I remember the group rates were like $150 for the 9000 ft one and $220 for the 15000 feet one. Not too sure on that though, since it was about 3 years ago in college. *edit* nevermind, it's on that website that jumper posted.

Definitely do the higher one though... 20-30 seconds of free fall felt like nothing.

Me too! me too! :)
I haven't gone since freshman year in college

Okay, let me get this straight.

You voluntarily jump OUT of a plane :wow

And hurtle towards the planet Earth accelerating at 32 feet/sec/sec :wtf

And there's a chance of a mechanical failure so you reach a terminal velocity of what, 175 miles per hour? :loco

And if you hit the Earth, due to a weight advantage, the Earth wins overwhelmingly :(

..... I want my mommy :cry

Easy there Cap'n Hijack:twofinger

This is a rally to gather at the home DZ in Davis for those who are interested. For the record...I promise that 99% of first time skydivers won't be concerned with the "scenery" below. In Davis, they teach you both altitude awareness and deployment of your canopy on your first tandem jump...so between checking your altimeter, pulling at the correct altitude and the sensory overload that usually occurs when a newbie is falling from a plane through open space at 12 thousand feet....you're going to be totally good to go with lowly fields surrounding your landing area. :thumbup

The chick organizing this outing is approaching 1000 jumps, and has jumped multiple times at all the DZ's you're talking about. She's making a very educated decision about what would be best for a large group of first timers. The group rate she will get as a veteran of the Davis DZ will not be posted on any website. If you want to do Monterey sometime, I'm sure she'd be down get another group together of the folks that enjoy the Davis experience ;)

As for you Lizard...your calm, even-keeled approach to life will be perfect for the sport. Come on out brother!!!:laughing

I liked Aisha's explanation... :p

removing my comments so people don't get confused. Still count me in (tentative on the date of course).

Dooood...there's a main point here you're not getting, but that's OK! Keep your eye on the thread...hopefully we'll see you and your gal in Davis! :thumbup

BTW, I think the Russians have a program where you can get on one of their Soyuz space craft, and jump from the International space station in a special re-entry suit...I hear the view is incredible:laughing :twofinger :laughing

Edited for intentionally crashed space station "Mir":laughing

***Clarification***

I am so glad to see that so many of you want to go! I will through out some weekend dates as soon as the weather calms down and we can all decide what will work best.

For the one guy on this post rambling on about not jumping at Davis, please call me if you want to discuss. 415.596.0552. I don't want to confuse other readers with where we are going by your lengthily replies about the wrong drop zones and incorrect links. I would love to chat with you over the phone if you want to discuss creating Monterey gather at a later point.

I posted this because I wanted to take some BARFers to MY home drop zone to do tandems and enjoy a good party afterwards. I have over 700 jumps and have been to all the surrounding dropzones, including Monterey. Davis is the best for group tandems for many reasons. Don't always count of a website to tell you everything either. Having been in the sport since I was 19 and having jumped at over thirty dropzones across the country, you learn what to look for at a dropzone that makes it safe, and it sure as hell in not what's on their website. A few facts on Davis for you…

They are an extremely safe DropZone, with an owner that has been in the sport for years and is very well known and respected. Additionally, their packers have been there for years and do an excellent job on reducing any risk in malfunctions.

The have the best ground crew including manifest and packers that are extremely organized, and ensure all the tandems get completed in one day with less waiting time.

They have great equipment and lots of it maximizing safety and time efficiency for large groups.

They have the world's first state of the art plane built just for skydiving that is brand new, safe, and gets to altitude in about half the time as most planes in the Bay area.

They are not considered a "tandem factory" as many other dropzones are, where they are just rushing people thought a five minute brief and on to the jump, but rather take the time to educated you on what you are about to do. Additionally, they count the tandem in their learning package so that if you ever wanted to continue, you could have it count towards your license process.

They experienced jumpers that are their every weekend are a blast, very helpful, and promote safety. They are not squidly as are many dropzones, making risky choices and putting others in danger.

The give great group rates, and will totally hook us up as soon as I can give them an accurate number of people, which is all I am trying to figure out right now.

I appreciate your enthusiasm to be involved and I am glad you want to continue jumping! But please keep in mind what this post is…. Me organizing a fun trip to my fun, safe, competitively priced dropzone for my new BARFer friends, and not a debate on where we should skydive. Again, if you want to go anywhere else, any other time, I would love to meet you and take you down there. I am sure I can introduce you to many people and we could have a good time, and I can educate you and point out the differences on the different dropzones, and what you should be looking for.

Thanks for you understanding and feel free to call me. 415.596.0552.

Everyone else…it looks like we have 15 or so people now, so let me see what kinda pricing and dates we are looking at!

Yahoooooo!!!

Aisha

thanks for the explanation Aisha. Sorry for being an idiot :laughing

You should remove your phone number, so that leghumpers won't call you up and pretend to be me.

My work schedule is clearing up soon so I should be able to be counted in +1 maybe:teeth

I'm a retired leghumper so don't worry about me calling:teeth
