I get around 6 hours of sleep a day. My internal clocks tells me when to wake up but am alarm is needed.

I wrote this the other night at like 2AM and decided to email to myself to make sure I was not crazy before posting. I do that sometimes.
******

We all have different sleeping cycles. I tend to go to bed at a decent time, little before midnight but once in a while I’m up in the middle of the night / early morning and look at Barf to see who is online. In a weird way I find a connection and it is interesting to me to check out Barf and see who is still out there chiming in...

Late nighters chime in. What is up?!

And why do so many television stations go to ads at night? Do they really think that people that stay awake late just want to buy shit? :

The cost of ad time is based on expected viewership. This means shit in the middle of the night is much cheaper than any other time slot

I wake up before my alarm most days but have it just in case v

Major events like a BARF Rally I wake up 30-45 minutes before the alarm. Of late I’m 11:30 to dawn, not working but I don’t want to miss any daylight. I occasionally stay in bed for 10 or 12 hours but damn it’s tiring.

Can't sleep, ever. I have a device that monitors my sleep stages. Usually around 4-1/2 hours total sleep per night. Sometimes I make up for it with a 6hr nap. I don't need an alarm because I see the clock every 15 minutes an hour or so before I need to get up.

What device? I've been curious about how much sleep I actually get.

I've been getting 6, need 9.

Just added a 4 inch topper to the bed, got 10 hours first weekend with a benadryl Friday night.

My mind wakes up at the same time, every morning, the benadryl helps keep it a little drowsy.

I have come to realize how important sleep is to me as I get older (just turned 40). Sleep is crucial to me now, most likely because it has only been since moving to CA that I can have a normal sleep schedule.

As an adult my sleep schedule was not set or standard due to my job. Never knew when we would get a search rescue case or something would happen underway on mid watch that would keep me from getting normal sleep. Then, we would have foreign commercial ships that needed boarding in the middle of the night, which would jack me all up.

So, now that I can get normal sleep, I do! I still set an alarm but most days I don't need it. My big dog usually ensures I am up on time for her morning breakfast (7am) on weekends. Normal sleep for me is 10:30pm- 06:30am.

I dang near got fired working grave shift.
I had a one tone, one volume, cheapo alarm clock, that wouldn't "get er done". after I spent time sailboarding all afternoon.
I found anything this strenuous would cause me to sleep right thru it, adding to my tardy/absent count that has a final number = termination.
I found that an alarm that gets louder and changes pitch and sound pattern, saved my job.
Slapping the 5 minute snooze I could get to the second when it would start again.

I used to be the guy with an internal alarm clock. Sleep soundly and woke up naturally 5min before the alarm. I also used to be the guy who could eat a bucket of ice cream in one sitting and never gain any weight.
I dont know if those things are related but both "superpowers" went away soon after I turned 30.

Once you read the sleep book I mentioned above, so much will make sense about modern times and our international mental illness from sleep deprivation. I have taken his recommendations seriously and I believe it has helped my mental and physical health.

This guy is one of the two top researchers on sleep and he worked with the other guy in developing the information base.
