speeding motorcycles, cop, gun, bang!

White's headed to Mexico! Surf's up!!!

I would be floored if you could find a police force that has a policy that isn't shoot to kill.

when you need to resort to a lethal response, it is just that, Lethal.

.

Boy howdy on that one , folks who say 'just shoot the suspect in the leg' have nary a clue on exactly how any agency trains it's officers for a combat scenario , and they're even less clueless about human anatomy.

Examine this for a moment , the majority of officers in the country carry either a 9mm parabellum or .40 s and w , the available loadings in either caliber if delivered to the thigh will create a few lbs of bloodshot bone chipped hamburger if the hit the femur , if the femoral artery is nicked or severed into the bargain the recipient of such a donation of lead and cupronickel will most likely *DIE* of blood loss prior to receiving medical help. And a shattered femur means several surgeries and a steel or titanium rod to replace said essential bone.

Hit the shin or knee , similar results , many surgeries and replacement of a lot of bone.

Life ain't a movie folks.

he was found GUILTY folks. :)

I think we've gone back and forth, on how out of line he was, no? Now to wait for sentencing in June.

I'm hoping he gets quite a few years in the pen to think about what he did.

Now he can switch from fearing for his life to fearing for his behymen.

the public isn't trained to keep their hands far from their waist when they are being pulled over for having a vehicle that accelerates quickly. but for some reason the police are trained to shoot them in the back when they're not looking. hope i don't get shot in the back before i can get my bike turned off and my kickstand down.

Mr. McCloskey testified that he and a friend were riding motorcycles at about 2:15 a.m. when they took a route down Indian Road in Ottawa Hills. He said that because of the noise of his Harley Davidson motorcycle, it wasn't until he had come to a complete stop at Central Avenue and began idling that he realized a police vehicle was behind him with its lights and sirens activated

I think this is one more stake in the heart of the "LOUD PIPES SAVES LIVES" arguement.

Repost :p

Wow, that seems incredibly fucked up. Don't see how the lives of the officers were "in danger" in that brief period of time when the guy is stopped on his bike, just sitting there and his equally dumb friend had crashed.

On a related note - I thought this quote was interesting;

"Mr. McCloskey testified that he and a friend were riding motorcycles at about 2:15 a.m. when they took a route down Indian Road in Ottawa Hills. Apparantly, loud pipes don't always save lives :rolleyes

I'm sure all your comrades at Uhuru House are cheering.

Wow - batshit insane Tea Party much?

Uhuru is the plural of Uhura.

Well, I sorta feel the same about this guy as I do that Meserle guy.

I don't think either one woke up that day and thought "well, I think I want to shoot someone today". It appears they were both just scared, and beyond incompetent.

Not a good recipe for law enforcement. scared+incompetent+Glock=dead/paralyzed citizens.

I wonder if better training would have helped in either/both cases? I don't know, both cases just seem so impossibly retarded. Especially this one. I think my mom would do a better job than these fellas.

I actually even feel a bit for the officer in this case. Well, if he gets prison. That's going to suck, and again, I am sure he didn't wake up that morning thinking "I am going to monumentally fuck up today and paralyze some 24 year guy". Unfortunately that is exactly what he did.

Ok, I know this is a minor technicality, and I could even be mistaken (and if I am, I'm more than willing to acknowledge and back down) but several people keep mentioning "manslaughter". In order for it to be "manslaughter" wouldn't the 24 year old rider have to be dead? Otherwise wouldn't it be attempted manslaughter? :dunno

Not to change the subject, but does anyone know what "paralellized" is?

Is it anything like being adjacened?

Any simple explanation will be OK.
Thanks!

Gotta find some way to deal with those darned perpendicular Harley riders!
