Sport Cycle Leasing

Sometimes it's hard to get a hold of them. If you leave a message with your phone number they usually will call back shortly. Or you could call Joe's cell phone. He's posted in online and its on SCL's business card so give it a try. 650-454-4275

^+1^ wut he said. try his cell & leave a msg:thumbup

Call me on my cell. And, I guess I have to say it- leave a voicemail if you call.

Man... i tried to get a hold of that place for weeks about a cbr and they never ever got back. I pretty much called everyday to see if it came in and he told me he would call be back, but never did...

I recently bought a bike from them a little over a month ago and I have to say it has been one of the worst experiences I have had. Here is my long and agonizing story.

It all started off when I responded to an ad posted by SCL and decided to give them a call and asked for the OTD price. The next day I went down to SCL to confirm the OTD price which was supposed to include registration, taxes, and fees. After confirming the OTD price and test riding it I purchased it for the said amount and left with the bike and a COPY of the title and was told to fax over a copy of my insurance so they could register the bike for me. Later that day I faxed my insurance papers and called to confirm that they recieved the fax and that they would register it for me.

Three weeks later I called my friend that works at the DMV and asked her to check the registration status on the bike since I have had no word from the DMV or SCL, what I learned was there had been no activity on the title of the bike (sale was not reported). So I decided to call Joe (who sold me the bike from SCL) and asked him about the status of the title, when I called him and asked him about my registration he would say is "I'm in a meeting could you call me back in a minute" and would not pick up his phone for the rest of the day. I kept calling back atleast 4-6 times a day to try to get a hang of him but he would only pick up the first phone call and say he was busy then hang up and not pick up anymore phone calls, this went on for over a week.

After a week I finally got a hold of Joe and he told me that he had given me a number to call on the day of the sale (which I do not recall happening) and I was supposed to call that number to finalize my registration. Shortly after hanging up I called the number and it turned out to be the main SCL phone line. When I explained to the person on the phone (Sharon) the situation she said that she does not know what I was talking about and said that SCL leases bikes and does not sell them (which made me kind of nervous) then she said she needed to ask Joe and she'll call me later. A little while later I got a call back from her and she told me to mail or fax her the title so she could confirm the sale (I was getting even more nervous since the copy of the title was the only proof that I had for the purchase of the bike and did not want to mail it or give it to somebody) so instead I rode down to SCL and she confirmed the title. Then I was given the REAL title with signatures and the license plate for the bike and was told that I needed to register it and registration would cost no more than $17. Mind that I had already paid for registration when I purchased the bike and that SCL has failed to even attempt to transfer titles.

The next day I went to the DMV to register the bike and the DMV told me that I also needed the signature of the lessee (the person who leased it) to sign it on top of the SCL signatures. I tried to explain to the DMV that the lessee does not own the bike and that SCL has sole ownership of the bike and that they have the authority to sell it to me, but the DMV said that it is insufficient proof that the bike was sold to me and in order to complete the registration I would need a letter of repossession or a bill of sale. The day after I called SCL and said that I needed a bill of sale to register the bike and Sharon claims that she is absolutely positive that I DO NOT need the signature of the lessee, letter of repossession or bill of sale to complete the registration although I explained to her that is what the DMV has requested. Instead she mailed me a page from the DMV records claiming that the signature of the lessee is OPTIONAL and that I should present this page to the DMV. So I headed down the the DMV again and was told to bring the same things again. At this point I was pretty frustrated since I had been to the DMV twice and everyone knows what pain waiting at the DMV could be. As I left the DMV I called SCL again and explained my situation and was told that she (Sharon) can not produce a bill of sale for me due to the fact that she did not sell me the bike and that I had to get a hold of Joe (the person who sold me the bike) to make it for me. She said that she will e-mail Joe and call me back as soon as she gets word from him.

Two days later I called SCL and asked about the status of the bill of sale and she told me that she could not get a hang of him. At this point I was starting to get mad for I had been calling non-stop for a week and have been to the DMV twice. So after hanging up with her I decided to try and call Joe to see if I could get a hang of him, for once he actually picked up and agreed to give me a bill of sale. I then raced down to SCL to find that Joe had been hanging at MDK (who SCL shares offices with) and was finally given a bill of sale. Now I find it hard to believe that Sharon who works in the SCL offices can not find Joe who is less than 20ft away.

Finally with signed title and bill of sale in hand I went to the DMV and found out that I would need to pay sales tax. Before I purchased the bike I had confirmed the OTD price which was supposed to include registration, taxes, and fees. The DMV saids that I need a report of sale from SCL to waive the sales tax, so I call Joe again and asked if I could get a report of sale from him. Then I get the usual I am busy and call me back later, this went on for a couple of days again. He finally acknowledges and saids that if I wanted a report of sale I would need to pay him sales tax, now taken by complete suprise I try to explain to him that I had already paid him when I purchased the bike. His response was that I paid for registration only and not sales tax, I replied by saying I paid the OTD price which includes everything and then confronted him about the registration since SCL was supposed to register the bike for me and failed to, he responded by hanging up.

After paying the OTD price I had to register the bike myself which led to two weeks of getting hung up on, two trips from San Francisco to Redwood City which SCL was located, and four trips to the DMV. I ended up registering the bike myself at the DMV and paid $500 in sales tax.

On top of that a few days ago I found a note from Lo-Jack saying I had missed an appointment and needed to call to set-up another appointment at a later date. I called Lo-Jack just to find out that the message was not meant for me but for my mom's boyfriend and that my bike DOES NOT have Lo-Jack. The ad for the bike claims that it has it has Lo-Jack installed.

Here is the ad http://www.bayarearidersforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=266737&highlight=scl+deal+week

As of now I feel as if I had been swindled the extra money I had to pay for the OTD price, the sales tax, and over two weeks of my time. It seems that they did not go out of their way to help me or just help me in general due to multiple hang-ups and missed calls.

Lesson of the story is, GET EVERYTHING IN WRITING. This was a costly and time consuming lesson that I will NEVER forget.

I've met the above rider and heard his story. It seems SCL dropped the ball on this one.

OTD means pay the price listed on OTD and be done with everything, am I wrong? I bought my bike OTD at Marin and I paid what was listed which includes all the fees and DMV stuff. With the tax diff betw Marin and SF.

Unless they posting wasn't clear? But if I was anything like mine, then it was finely printed.

I will believe the word of this rider because I highly doubt we go out to buy a bike and just to make a hassle for ourselves down the road.

I think scl has some explaining to do, otherwise I feel they're putting their reputation at risk here.

facts

You have many, many, many facts wrong here. I don't even know where to begin, but I have been hard to get ahold of lately. This part is true. I apologize.

I told you, and documented in writing, very clearly that the price we would sell it to you for would include registration of the LoJack, only. The price we agreed to was different than the price advertised.

My mobile number, is 650-454-4275. Don't hesitate to call me, or Sharon. Either of us would be happy to help you. I can tell you with a great deal of certainty that Sharon will be better suited to help you with this problem, but I'll do what I can.

First of all there is NO Lo-Jack on this bike, I called Lo-Jack on Wednesday and confirmed multiple times that there is NO Lo-Jack associated with the bikes VIN.

Second, why would I be given a COPY of the title on the date of purchase and asked to fax in my insurance information on the date of sale if it was not for registration purposes.

Lastly, who in their right mind would pay HUNDREDS of extra dollars JUST for a Lo-Jack registration / transfer when all the previous owner of the bike has to do is just fill out a form and send it in to Lo-Jack.

Regardless, no action was taken by SCL to register the bike or the Lo-Jack (which the existance of it is questionable).

I actually had the same problem with SCL.

First was buying the bike, man what a pain in the ass, first appointment, Joe completely blew me off, "forgot" that he had set up to meet me. Second time, he was just in and out, showed me the bike, then basically dished it to MDK's guys to finish the sale.

Bought a used bike that was a trade in at SCL, got a small slip of paper as my only proof of sale, said wait 90 days before calling the DMV about the title not coming

90 days later, no title, and I'm selling the bike, I just ASSume the DMV is lagging, I sell the bike w/o title, do transfer as if the title was missing, new owner takes off happy

New owner calls me the next day, DMV has no record of it ever being in my name, in fact SCL NEVER PAID OFF THE ORIGINAL LIEN. So the original owner was STILL BEING CHARGED and prob fugged up his credit. So for 3 months I was riding a bike that was not technically mine (Nor was it ever technically SCLs to sell since they never paid off the lien).

Called Joe on his cell (VM BOX FULL), PMed him-no reponse, Messaged him on Aim, no response.

Finally said Eff you Joe, went over his head, and went straight to MDK. Sharron was actually EXTREMELY helpful, and almost 2 weeks later, I was finally able to resolve it and make the new owner happy. What basically happened was MDK paid off lien, original owner received and signed title, then sent it to MDK. MDK then sent the signed title to me and I just had the new owner fill in his information. So on the DMVs records, SCL nor myself were ever in possession of the bike, it will appear as a 2-owner bike.

I was technically in a really messy situation if i were to ever be pulled over. The new owner couldnt ride his new bike for 2 weeks, shittastic

After it was all said and done, still not a single word or apology for Joe for his fuck up, never even responded to the PM I sent. He dropped the ball, he didn't follow up the paperwork, cross his T's, and dot his I's.

He's basically way to busy for his own good it seems, making fire sales on bikes that are not technically his yet, then dumping the paper work on MDK and expecting/hoping for them to do all the followup work that HE should be doing since he is the one selling the bikes. Yes he has screaming deals, but you will also have a screaming headache if you happen to buy it on one of his busy days and he neglects to properly finish up the paperwork :thumbdown

It was obvious from the first moments that SCL started posting on barf that it was a huge scam. If you bought a bike there without proper documentation then I have no sympathy. When I pay someone $$$$, I require full legal documentation that the item in question is now completely mine.

If a firm claiming to be a dealer can't give you full docs, tell them to fuck off and walk away.

I have had run ins with this JOE dude. I believe him to be more argumentative than me....thats pretty hard to do. And willing to lie about anything at a drop of a hat.

I dont know about the company....but I dont trust anything he says AT ALL.

It was my first used purchase ever from a dealer, i assumed that what they gave me was legit and that they would follow through and transfer the bike too me, but they did not.

But I agree, get everything in writing otherwise Joe will try to pull some shit on you and not give a damn. He didn't give 2 shits that I was in a bad position and basically dished this fuck up onto MDK (who were very helpful)

I'm betting MDK is rethinking their alliance with him at this point, hes gotten to busy or too greedy for his own good it seems and is cutting corners

Damn, I must have done business with SCL on a "good day" perhaps.

Called Joe one morning, he told me of a screaming deal on a brand new bike, drove to check it out within 2 hours. Not even 45 minutes later I rode off on my new ride. As a matter of fact, there was another person who showed up at the same time I did, that was going to buy it (or at least attempted to) but Joe was like "It's all yours".

Got my plates within 2 weeks, registration in 2 and a half weeks.

I think Joe is very helpful, very busy though but will resolve your issues quick, just gotta give it a bit of patience, the bussiness is relatively new so there isn't a lot of staff perhaps (as far as SCL apart from MDK) big props to Sharon too!

Patience runs thin when you just sold a bike that was not even yours (or SCL's) to begin with. I could have been in a very sticky legal situation of the original owner realized that SCL never paid off his lein and decided to report it stolen. PM'd, AiM, and tried to Call/VM all with ZERO response. Even after Sharon handled it all for him (2 week process), not a single sorry or showing of gratitude for not starting my own thread and completely tearing him a new asshole.

There is such thing as being too busy for your own good. Instead of enjoying the spoils of his hardwork and buying a new Ferrari he prob should think about hiring more staff IMO. It takes money to make money, better to pay up now and keep everyone happy. Business's thrive off regulars and return customers, if word gets out to everyone that he doesnt treat all his customers equally his rep will be ruined and his new business will start to subside, and since he only pleased one out of two of his original customers, his return customer base won't be large enough to sustain his operation

I like Joe, and all the guys at MDK. Unfortunately i couldn't buy a bike from them in the middle of this lending crisis and they didn't get their shipment of Vstroms fast enough. What i WILL say is that SCL gives some of the most extraordinary deals, but at the cost of customer service. Luckily the sales people at MDK are AWESOME and will take over and help you out and when you've decided on the bike, Joe will take over on the other side.

SCL definitely needs a GOFER to take care of all these loose ends. It seems like Sharon and Joe are way too busy to run the business efficiently.

Yeah, that was me. I didn't wanna tell everybody at the time, but I had no job and was desperately broke when I went on that ride. Just needed an escape from that whole reality thing. Stuff's a bit better now :laughing I'll definitely be giving a call or visit in the next few days.

I feel ya on that one.. I am not currently in the best financial situation in my like. but enough to pay the bills.. However when times were desperate I had my bike to get away from everything. Even if it meant scrounging for gas money. It kept me sane.:ride

Yah, I think this is the main problem
