Sport Cycle Leasing

hmm i dont think ill be using scl...i wouldnt want to sue anyone :twofinger

Crazy, my best friend really wanted to buy that red Kawi! I'm glad he didn't or Joe should be glad someone beat him to it b/c if he had purchased it and gotten half the run around you did.... Joe would have gone missing with out a trace. Two thumbs down for SCL

::pOSTED IN GENERAL "BEWARE SCL" THREAD::

A few friends and I have personally dealt with Joe and leased bikes from him. We all have had a great time doing it, Joe has ALWAYS taken great care of us! The leasing program is awesome and I wish it has been around longer. For the people that have had some sort of problem with him, have you attempted to address the issue with Joe? I find it really really really hard to believe that he would ever treat anyone differently.. My .02 is that hes a great guy, knowledgeable, and has always taken great care of me. I will certainly repeat my business with SCL and MDK.:thumbup
This isnt some sort of suck up thread, but i really like SCL and im just confused how all of this bashing could come about:wtf

Joe has always treated me good. I am leasing my second bike from him this week.

So it looks like we have the same couple of folks ardently supporting Joe, and a couple of folks providing seemingly unbiased details of how Joe did business with them. I might have been tempted to give Joe the benefit of the doubt, that is until he came on here and argued with the folks who had a complaint without taking any apparent initiative to address the grievance. I am sorry, but leaving a phone number for folks to call you after you admit in writing you have been difficult to get a hold of is just horrible customer service.

At worst Joe could be a scammer. At best he could be a good guy who can't keep track of his inventory, clients, and paperwork, and can't be bothered to rectify a public grievance against him.

Scammer or not, it takes Joe and his company out of consideration when purchasing my next bike in the spring.

First of all, I'd like to point out that the some of the people in this thread who posted about having great experiences with SCL and Joe sound....I don't know..... a little scripted. Kinda triggers a thought in my head that perhaps these accounts were purposely created in June/July 08 just for the purpose of this situation where SCL gets into some trouble with the board. I had a funny feeling about this whole lease a bike thing in the beginning. And in this case it sounds like the OP is more truthful than SCL. OP seems to have all details documented pretty well and SCL has not responded to any of it for shit that makes any sense. Sorry SCL, but OP=1, SCL =0

My observation is the first sign of significant financial trouble is a dealer that doesn't pay off bike liens, flooring or register machines within a day or two of sale. It is unfathomable, a dealer sells a bike without proper documentation, and it's against the law. There's no way a dealer would let a bike out the door without payment in full- either from the customer, the loan (lease) company or both, and the amount would be for the machine and registration in full. Period.

If you have a complaint or want to report a transaction for investigation; http://www.dmv.ca.gov/consumer/invest/inv172.htm

If the deal wasn't as described, DMV will discover it and move on, but if it was...there's simply no excuse. I hope everyone was up and up.

Yea I'm not an actual person, I'm an automatically-generated response.

Look, just because some of us had a good experience with SCL doesn't mean we're fake, I do find it amusing that you would come up with such bs but it's ok, it's an internet board.

Sorry that the OP had a bad experience but it ain't my fault, it's Joe's. I merely stated my own experience.

Well I'm the OP and I didnt have a bad experience, I gave them a:thumbup So I'm not really sure what you guys are referring to?

I got confused to ;\

I thought this was the thread were the OP had a bad experience with SCL.

(Though I did reply to the allegations...)

No big deal, I had a good experience w/SCL. I cant say anything to anyone elses- not really my place to. Joe has always treated me good and tried to keep me a happy & return customer. Since I'm leasing another bike from him I'd say he's doin his job as far as I'm concerned.

Be fair and proper and give this establishment a Yelp rating.

Again, be fair and honest.

About that bike that was sold to a poster in this thread, and then poster sold bike 90 days later to another guy that couldn't register it...

When the dealer obtained the title from original owner, and then forwarded said title to poster, who then forwarded title to 90 day buyer...
Yeah, that's illegal. It's called title jumping.

I'm not saying it's the poster's fault, it was a shitty situation created by the dealer.
And I'm impressed that a dealer is/was willing to title jump it, thinking they can get away with it.
I'm sure they charged the buyer sales tax though - which they kept cause they didn't register the bike. lolz.

This was an interesting thread that I had not seen before. This post is unsolicited.

I had a succesful purchase of a TL1000S in early September from SCL. An ad by SCL was posted here on BARF, I assumed SCL was next door to MDK so I drove over there to see the bike or ask the locals about it. The bike was in the showroom, they rolled outside to start it up. I liked what I saw, told Dave in sales that I wanted to buy it, with cash. He knew we would have to wait for Joe for paperwork two days later, after a holiday.

I left multiple phone messages to SCL regarding my plans for the purchase. I had wanted to put money down on the Sunday, but was told not to, Dave would insure that my place in line was noted. I'm not at all sure that that communication happened.

While driving to SCL/MDK at noon, I called Sharon, who confirmed that my voicemail messages had been passed to Joe. She mentioned that there had been 50-60 "email" inquiries about that bike. No word about a decision. At the showroom, I waited for 45 minutes to see Dave, who was busy with a sale to a couple. Looking for Joe, somebody figured out he was heading for lunch, I walked out to the parking lot and waved him down. He parked his car and greeted me. He thought the price posted on BARF was different, so called their web jockey to confirm. So, not every post from Joe's account is directly from him. After checking the price posted, he gave the thumbs up to Dave to complete the sale at the posted price. I called my insurance agent for a binder.

My total time in the store approached 2.75 hours, which was excessive. I left with temporary registration in my wallet, having paid cash for the bike, sales tax, registration, & & $55 paperwork fee. I had mistakenly assumed that my DMV transactions would come later, having never purchased a vehicle from a dealer in a sales-tax state. I was lucky to have adequate cash on me, so paid in full.

California delivered my title in under 2 weeks. This suggests my purchase was reported to the DMV in a couple of days. My registration and license plate tab took more like 6 weeks. Amazing, that DMV.

I've been happy with my bike, and made a lot of new friends riding these last 5 months.
