Stock Thread 2018

oh, several years of never ending gains and the highest P/E ratio ever, among other things. Prices are so insanely high now it looks like Bitcoin a month ago. :laughing

I've been totally enjoying the last year plus of the Trump boom, but I think it's gotten into very scary territory now. Partly gut, partly reason, but a bull market is perfectly capable of trampling logic into the ground and destroying it overnight.

Scary territory is what I feel sometimes too.
What would you do with the cash? Putting it into the bank won't make anything.

Question to all:
If you have $200K cash, where would you invest? (RE is overvalued. Stock is also high. Crypto is on another thread). Serious question.

Would you sell 401K and wait sideline in fear of the meltdown?

Brokerage money market or bank. If I am worried to the point of selling, I don't mind sitting on cash.

Would I sell 401K? Probably not. Depends on how long you have had it and appreciation. I might sell 20% of it. Maybe. I don't like to sell.

Would I liquidate an account? I'm not that bold. I might sell part of a position to hold onto some cap gains. Right now this is a bull market, and it's called that for a reason. Fuck with the bull and you get trampled.

Really tough to know what's right. I'm about 2/3 international stock/funds and not planning to cash out. I'd say look for dividends and intrinsic value.

$200k? My first thought is down payment on two townhouses and be positive cash flow with the way rents are. Most cases you should be able to buy and rent out and cover IF you don't hire a prop management company.

Thanks afm199, and rodr.
Right now I have part into "high" risk stocks. They earn me pretty good, I have to admit it won't last forever.
When I sell them, really have no clue what to do with the cash. That's what keep me still holding into them. I love RE, but they are expensive right now.

afm199,
Is Brokerage money market = money market account ?

Really depends on if this is retirement money or play money. And how soon you'll need it. Maybe you're planning on using that "play money" for something important, like a home down payment? If so, less risk is warranted.

If you include both retirement and not, I'm 20% commodities, 10% corporate bonds, 10% US stocks, 15% foreign stocks, 5% foreign REITs, and 40% cash (CD's)

Are they really have postitive cash flow?
Can you point me to some market here? I don't have any knowledge regarding to townhouses and renting.

They vary. Some brokerages have money market funds to park cash, some have actual bank accounts linked. Check with your broker.

That you're not making money off financial fire insurance is not basis for complaint, and no one (including Schiff) is suggesting a portfolio that's nothing but insurance.

Unfortunately, that's the disconnect for blankpage and many others... they make the mistake of treating gold as a profit center, with ROI in mind.

The underlying macro trend is clear and inescapable, and a thinking individual should position themselves in a way that provides protection and profit potential according to their capabilities and risk tolerance.

None of what is going on is good for the 99%. It's nothing but erosion of rights, privacy, and purchasing power. All these complex factors need to be considered.

The great bleating masses can and do continue with their CNBC and Netflix and Facebook - an aspect of the inescapable reality of the bell curve. I am not one to tilt at windmills or argue with the rain. But if I can help to stir some critical examination of the big picture in at least one person, then my little essay will have been worthwhile.

The writing has been on the wall for a long time. I too have been trying to foster critical thought for years - whether with honey or vinegar, most respond unfavorably if at all. It's maddening how TPTB has had an endless bag of tricks to misinform, misdirect and hypnotize people into believing the illusion of prosperity.

And the market has been climbing for a long time. But if you slept better at night all this time knowing you had a bag of gold buried in the back yard who am I to judge.

Sooner or later there's going to be a recession and redrum will say he told us so. "I've been saying it for 20 years and nobody would listen!" I can see it now

Star One Credit Union is paying 1.25%, no hoops to jump through, no b.s.

they do this for about 3 months then drop down to what everyone else is at, i've been through this before.

So far in the 18 months I've parked cash there, they have steadily risen from 1%. I do understand what you're saying, but at this time they have been and are trending up.

glad to hear that man, cap one was at 1.25 or 1.75% years ago and it lasted for like 3 months before it was below .75%, kept going down too. Was extremely irritated for going through the hassle of opening an acct. Closed that bitch and pretty much don't chase rates anymore.

I first heard the "end is coming" in the sixties. Still waiting.
