Stolen helmet

Why on earth would you leave your gear "locked" to your bike? All it takes is one homeless guy dropping a deuce in it.

The thought crossed my mind, but I'm parking at Dublin/Pleasanton. We're taking the burbiest of the 'burbs. Not a lot of homeless folks walking around BART out here.

BTW your helmet is insured and you should claim it.

My deductible is more than the helmet's value.

That's the problem with transit parking. You park at a mall, a thief doesn't know if you are in for 10 minutes or 10 hours.

I had the same thing happen to me, and if you are really worried, u-lock the helmet.

Still could be clipped but a lot harder.

I'd file a report just to make BART cops aware of what happened. The guy could be coming back for your bike. And I while I understand the sentiment of insurance replacing the bike, it's still a fucking PITA that will take a while to resolve.

I always thought it seemed sketchy to leave my moto and/or gear at BART all day. I mean, the potential thieves obviously know you're gone for the duration of the day. Even out in the open it seems like a matter of time. That said I don't ride to BART so maybe my perception is wrong...

I had my helmet stolen from MacArthur Bart a few months, they also got my racer gloves:thumbdown (I kept expecting my picture to show in the squid thead:laughing). My neighbor had her battery stolen out of her scooter from there as well, they just cut the wires and busted up her lock/latch. So there is some risk, obviously. Lately, I've been eyeballing those bicycle locker things and wondering if my grom would fit in there. I'm guessing the bicyclists might get a little bent if I stuffed my wee moto in one of their bike lockers.

I'm paranoid so I carry my helmet and tank bag with me into work every day even though I work in a facility with armed guards at the gates and on patrol 24/7.

Better safe than sorry. I've never had a helmet or a motorcycle stolen.

Helmet, tank bag and a back protector.......every single day.

A guy I used to work with had his helmet stolen off his bike lock by cutting the D ring straps. I mean :wtf.......that's not even theft, it's nothing more than vandalism.

Man, you post this just when I was starting to consider commuting to BART (the same station) on my moto....

Now I am not feeling it as much...idk.

BTW, I do commute through there daily, and I see homeless people often enough.

Buy a Buell and a Bilt helmet. You'll be fine.

I use to commute to BART everyday as well and I was always paranoid about leaving my stuff behind locked to my moto. Unless I rode my V-Strom with the tail bag where I can leave the helmet in (and obviously if they wanted that they would take it too) but at least they don't know what's in it, I usually just carry whatever I wore with me on BART and to work.

Buying another bike isn't an option for me really. But then again, commuting by bike to me is a luxury, not a necessity.

If I do ride to BART, it's a no brainer that I would take my gear with me. I can live with that. I would just be more worried about someone fucking or stealing my bike.

Years back I had what I considered the ugliest helmet ever stolen off my bike while parked in the financial district during business hours. They had to cut the d ring. So, not only was it was the ugliest helmet ever... it was now a useless ugly helmet. I though it was so ugly that it was theft proof.... guess I should have taken notice when the spinner crowd gave me the thumbs up.

Ok, then just slap Buell and Bilt stickers on the shit you do have. You'll still be fine.

Had mine stolen years ago, 2nd and Howard (Arai RX-7). First and last time I used a cable lock.

I've heard horror stories about a*holes stupid enough to cut straps.
