Stoner to Honda

I am not sure I see Rossi going to Ducati. I think he wants to retire in a couple of years and switching bikes would mean he has to re-learn a new bike. Doing that would mean he might not be competitive for a year or so and maybe never. I think Rossi wants to go out on top and if so it would make more sense staying at Yamaha on a winning bike and leave with another championship. my .02
I think the Rossi to the Ducati deal makes sense. Nicky & him were reasonably happy together @ Honda, so team-mate problems would be a non-issue. Vale' has said several times he still respects Nicky & wouldn't mind him for a team-mate again. Nicky also could help Vale' come to grips with the Duck so the 1st year deal might not be so bad w/Nicky's help.

EBD's crystal ball says Vale' to Ducati for 2011'/12', then off to Ferrari in 13'. Spies to Fiat YAM. :teeth

I think Stoner could crash a Honda pretty well too....

Yes, I shelled out $200 for a keg recently. of GOOD beer.

Holy Shit $200 for a keg of beer. Man I am really getting old, I remember when a keg of beer was about $40, and I am not talking Black Label. I am really showing my age, and my lack of beer drinking.

Its possible, it just depends on if Rossi wants the challenge of a new bike.

I really doubt anyone from Ducati would admit Stoner was leaving unless it was true.

Even if there was a chance of him staying, admitting he was leaving would make it more difficult to keep him if they were still trying to negotiate a contract.

Beside, if Ducati knows he is leaving then they can let other riders (Rossi) know that they are officially looking to replace Stoner.

FBYU's wet dream would be Rossi to Ducati. I don't think they can afford him.
It would be pretty cool if he could go to Ducati and win. Could cement him as the greatest rider of all time.

I don't see how you get much more cemented than Rossi already is.

Love him or hate him, he is the greatest of all time.

I would bet a case a beer Stoner is going to Honda.

I don't see it as unikely myself. I am simply questioning why anyone would believe there actually is "someone" in Ducati actually talking? The article is second-hand rumor-mongering and is almost certainly made up. If it isn't made up it is still speculation from an unnamed source. It isn't even facts from the source.

Ducati doesn't pay the bills, Marlboro does. Marlboro can afford whoever they want.

That said, the opinion of a friend close to the Rossi "fan club", Rossi isn't leaving Yamaha.

Actually I would rather see Rossi stay with Yamaha. I love Ducati, but I have always been a Yamaha fan. Plus I don't want to see Rossi have to start over with a new bike.

As for the sources of the story, I saw another post on Crash net saying the same thing. I think that it is very difficult for people to keep their mouths shut when it comes to big changes like this, it only takes one person to slip and the story builds from there.

I don't think there is any way Rossi will have the balls to go to Ducati. the bike is clearly still a mess.
Hayden seems to be doing OK, and I don't think many people inside MotoGP think Rossi, Lorenzo or Pedrosa are less talented. What Stoner's current problem is is a mystery.

Stoner's problem is the same one he had with Honda, he does not know the limits of the bike and rides past it too often = crash.

I mean fuck, the guy crashed on the warm up lap last year. Talk about not knowing the limits.

He already did for a season......that's why he was an easy let-go for Honda before...cause he trashed all their bikes.

.....he seems to have found his old form again...blazingly fast....right up until he crashes. I, for one, hope he regains his feel.....a strong team is better for both riders.

Rossi/Hayden: Factory Ducati
Stoner/Dovi: Repsol Honda
Lorenzo/Pedrobot: Factory Yamaha (talk about fireworks with those two in the pits....hahaha, Yamaha is used to it by now)

...Spies will have one more year before he is on the factory team...unless he lights up the rest of the season.

Why are you soo worried about that? He already took the title his first year on a new bike...and the yammie wasn't even that great that season. I personally think that at this point in his carreer he needs challenges like that to keep him motivated and sharp.

Don't count out Dovi on a Duc... He is Italian after all..

I think Spies has one more year of contract with Yam, right? So he is on a Yam either way..

194ish... yeah. Its for the local brewery, English Ales. Regardless of how the bet goes we should grab a beer at their pub!

Again, consider the source. Crash/MCN/Yahoo-Eurovision are all willing to post toal speculation and rumor as news in order to attract hits. None of them should be consider sources of news. Unless they can provide a named source or at least call out clearly that the report is rumor, you can pretty much ignore it. Most of these outlets get their news from Italian or Spanish sites which will, quite literally, just make shit up.

Just for some perspective:

Win/DNF Ratio:

Stoner: 2.0 (2 wins for every crash)
Pedrosa 0.89 (~9 wins for 10 crashes)
Lorenzo: .087 (~9 wins for 10 crashes)

U.S. journalism relies on unnamed sources all the time; a lot of stories wouldn't be possible without it. Dennis Noyes often runs stories with unnamed sources.

Don't know where the idea that Italian or Spanish sites "just make shit up" comes from; maybe what happens is second-hand translations make the original sound more definitive than they are.
