StonyBARF 17 September 7, 8, 9, 10, 2023

Sad not to make it to this one but so happy a 2023 Stonybarf could actually happen.
Conflict shwaumflict, this event got bumped so many times do to issues with the forest that any date is a gift.

Another shoutout to the many that made the huge effort to get the trails cleared so that Stonybarfs can even happen :hail

weather looks good, 85, 86, 87
Cooler higher methinks

Was at Gray Pine this last Fri/Sat/Sun PM to help OMC with some trail maintenance for their upcoming Jackhammer Enduro in October - had a blast! Looking forward to this weekend's StonyBARF, though I won't be there until Friday night.

Hello Butch,

I just paid you via Paypal. I hope to see you there.

Hello Butch,

I just paid you via Paypal. I hope to see you there.

I'll be there Thursday. I have a babysitter for the cats. The wife died seven weeks and three days ago, so I am still a bit of a mess. Staying busy is key.

Yet i forget things. Food? If you guys offer me a meal it would be cool. I am bringing a bunch of cans of sardines.

Oscar at Racepace made the TM alive. Haven't ridden it for years.

Look forward to see y'all.

Anyone know what’s up with the roads. Google gives me 4 hours to Stonyford, but 9 hours to Gray Pine campground. Maps on my iPhone is showing a section of Fouts Spring Road closed. This seems to be causing the 5 hour detour.

Weird, but good for folks to be aware of if trying to use their iphone for navigation. Double checked and my iphone is doing the same, ie sending me on a long route around the Snow Mtn Wilderness.

I know folks were at Gray Pines this weekend via the M10 and I heard nothing about a closure of it or people not being able to use it.

Mendo Ntl Forest page does show a closure on the M10

(scroll down to M10) above Fouts Campground..... but who knows how long ago that was.

I'll call in the am to confirm and repost. I strongly believe that the map and or forest service page is incorrect and or not updated.

It appears the iphone map app will route you no farther than the intersection of the M5 on the M10 coming from the east, or the town of Stonyford.

My suggestion for folks needing navigation from the town of Stonyford is to take a left in the town off Logoda Stonyford Road at the Rangers Work Station. That is the M10 which will you take west. Stay on it until you reach the valley and see the campground and signs for Davis Flats Campground etc which will be on your RIGHT at the bottom in the valley (do not turn off M10 prior to that.) Look at a map prior to departure, or better yet..... print out a hard copy for you kids! :laughing

I'll update tomorrow after calling the ranger station.

DO NOT USE THE IPHONE DIRECTIONS THAT WILL TAKE YOU ALL THE WAY NORTH AROUND THE SNOW MOUNTAIN WILDERNESS AREA AND WEST OF FOUTS SPRINGS. IT WILL ADD MULTIPLE HOURS AND BE ON GRAVEL ROADS.

Thanks CJ. Much of this Nav Crap is CRAP. I still make my cartoons and have a field day.

I am out for this year, bike is being rebuilt and is still missing a few parts.

Bummer Randy, you will be missed!

So how many hours and miles did you finally get out of it? I seem to remember you were near the high teens or even 20k miles last time we chatted. Yours was that unicorn of a very well maintained bike that outlasted all others! :thumbup

What? Noooo! When I finally get to go? Perhaps I must stop by and discuss

Google Maps shows 161mi/3hrs for me.
M10 is fine going into Gray Pine CG. M10 is most definitely closed going further west, just before Dixie Glade CG at 39.339061,-122.698888
M5 is still closed, when going north, just past Cedar Camp and Trail 3. Trail 3 and Trail 7 are now clear, so those can be used to connect M5 and Goat Mountain Rd.

I just called. Road is clear to Letts Lake.

Were bringing the 2 smokes this trip

Thanks for the updates on the roads. I too was seeing the same thing on the forest web site and was surprised by the Apple map showing the closure of M10 at M5 heading west out of Stonyford I’ll ignore the long loop reroute and come in as usual from Stonyford. Shooting for Thursday night around 9pm.
