Stonyford to Upperlake

I figure I have some remedial work to:Do Over! Since Doc Wong cancelled the 4/29 ride I'm doing this route via Cache Creek to Rd-41 to Williams to Leesville rd. to to Stonyford this weekend. Anyone in? Round up the fellas.

I'm in if its scheduled for the Sunday, if it was fun the first time round 2 should be no different. Now maybe we'll give the snow a chance to melt :teeth

What ? Sat or Sun ? I might be up for this again not sure yet of wife's plans.

Luckett, we had no water crossings except for rd 41 which had three little creeks no more then a foot deep max.

Sunday 4/29 of course in honor of Steve McQueen/Malcolm Smith/Mert Lawwill. Lets Do It!

I logged 277 miles on the $250 (yeah you heard me!) DR250 and was shocked I could do 60MPH uphill CA-20, hit 70MPH on I-80; and pop the front (OK, so I clutch it in 1st just like a 50cc pit-bike). Just like Serge XR600, the left case cover leaks a bit of oil to keep my left boot leather supple. - +1 on kickstart to keep my testosterone level up! We don't need no stinkin' magic button!

Riding CA off AND on-road in an Air-cooled, kick-start, 'Supertrapp loud', kick start thumper definitely brought a nostalgic tear to my eye.: it was just like the good ol' days on a Honda SL;

Colder storm moving in on Thursday hopefully no more snow ! Have to wait and see, but it will knock down the dust at least.:Popcorn Also looking for a way around M5 maybe M10 will have less snow ?

Messing around with NOAA, I found a spot or two where snow is expected but I'm not sure on how much accumulation will actually leave behind.

hhmmm good weather permitting this sounds like a fun ride! Drew, you're thinking of doing it on your 250??

Kyle -Is the XR400 plated? or is the EXC doing the slab (with no cush drive!)?

Option A: Old School! DR250 if a replacement Shift Drum Bolt arrives by Saturday and I can get the transmission sorted. If this $8 part fails, I'll be buying a new transmission. Last week I started out on the DR250 on this ride, and it was a blast on the dirt... and loud :twofinger tradeoff was maxed at 70 mph on the slab, not buzzy or wobbly, just WOT! This minimalist small bike stuff is a hoot! :wtf Besides, an air-cooled, high-compression, carbureted thumper started on one kick just makes my day!

Option B: Uberbeast ADV hype! Got the repaired oil-cooler on the Tiger. This is the back up plan: very comfy on the slab, much more work on the dirt... and the first 15 minutes of Rd-41 is ruts and hills - not necessarily more gnarly than Rayhouse, but long ruts are a pain on 19" front wheels and 500+ lbs. bikes. But then its WOT on hard pack for the most part...

Option C: Rideless! Not an option on the Laverda or SL125... maybe on the YZ but then I'll get pulled over on the slab.

Either way, I'll make the ride.

Blue-8 (DR650) and Mr. Junior (KLR) are in as of today. undertheoaks will show if he gets his KTM 990 bug sorted. jimboFosho on a KLR is a for sure. Cabrito (KLR) may show as well as Serge (XR600). olhogrider is an enigma: never to be heard from until he shows up all houligan on his Triumph Bonneville with leather saddlebags and chrome mufflers! :wow I was expecting banjoboy (FZ6), luckett (DR650) and maybe rodr (VStrom) who only has to come up from Fairfield.

All my bikes are plated. I can't imagine doing that many miles on anything but the 950 though... the EXC I love too much to hurt it with all that slab, and the XR400 tops out at like 55 mph really... (sure, it COULD do 70... but it would be like wringing its neck) worst experience ever on the freeway.
I recently learned that my 950 will happily do wheelies without any clutch... so I am having more fun with it again

Hey I may show up for a portion of this -- can't be away all day. Keep us posted on the route!

Based on last Sundays experience: we left Cache Creek Casino on CA-16 around 8:30 and were on RD-41 in 14 minutes. It took the fellas about 1 hour to negotiate Rd.41 out to Williams. Leesville Rd. off CA-20 was 15 minutes from Williams, and I think they hit Stonyford by noon. undertheoaks and jimboFosho can verify the actual time splits.

On the way to work this morning I found that needle in carb did got stuck open. I found that I can turn the gas off and back on just when it starts bogging down preventing from leaving gasoline trace and risking to flood the cylinder. Need to take it apart..
Float needle, easy fix... Keihin probably doesn't have a needle seat O-ring, but has a neoprene tip needle ( ~$30) and check the float level (measurement). I always shut off the petcock when the motor isn't running.

Thats really disappointing on the EXC, I've been shopping for a KTM EXC, 'Berg or Husky TE. undertheoaks would love the Katoom company... we thumpers will have to fend for ourselves.

It took us like 30 min to negotiate Rd. 41 and it is truly an amazing road, very fast and fun !! 10 min to Leesville Rd from Williams but we didn't stop in Williams straight shot to Leesville Rd and then to Stonyford. But we stopped and waited for Drew & Nancy for about 10/15 min with many attempts to contact them by phone as well:thumbdown with no luck. Hit Stonyford about and hour after starting Leesville then waited again for Drew & Nancy, again with no luck.:mad So then we marched on from there. Theres fuel spread out at least every 70 miles for those on smaller bikes at Cache Creek, Williams, Stonyford, Upperlake, then again at Clearlake Oaks.:teeth

Aside from the first bit of 41, everything leading up to Stonyford seemed to be a 40+mph pace except for some twistier parts of leesville. Getting into Stonyford doesn't take long at all, especially if we have all our compadres in tow.

Looks like as long as we don't stray to far north it should only be gettin' rain in the next day and a half or so.

Mud on dual-sport tires sucks! Hope we don't get rain 48-hrs prior. Forecast is rain Thursday, and Sunny and dry from there on through the weekend. Drizzle is fine: no dust and more traction.

Stonyford is nice even when wet as long as there is no downpours, but it looks like it will wick the moisture away very fast. Last weekend it was bone dry except where there was snow.:wtf

I still haven't seen if the 'do-over' will happen Saturday (4/28) or Sunday (4/29), if at all that weekend. I have another ride on Saturday, so i am hoping this will be on Sunday.

Sid, I got some video of the road portion but the card was full by the time I got to M5. I'll try to get it uploaded soon.
