Stonyford to Upperlake

Wow ... real riders here!

Can anybody figure a dirt route from Upper lake over to 16 ? After gassing up and lunch in Upper Lake there looks like a few routes that are a possibility.:teeth

Hi undertheoaks,

Very cool route you have planned in post#14 ... you guys pack on the miles ... ADV animals for sure ...

I'm sure you know this, but I like to get back to 16 after gassing up in Upper Lake, on big-bike friendly dirt, by backtrack your route down French Ridge to a right at the bottom onto Twin Valley Road to left on Bartlett Springs Road and follow that around Indian Valley Res. ... it comes out on Rt 20 a few miles from Rt 16 ... (Walker Ridge Road & Rt 20)

Hotmamaandme told me that Deer Valley Road goes through to Bartlett Springs Road also, but I've never been that way ...

And of course you can always pick up Bartlett Springs Road off Rt 20 by the winery south of Nice, by riding south from Upper Lake a few miles ...

I've got to learn how to embed maps the way you BARF guys do ... the interactive feature is super useful!

Your route down to Twin Valley (FR8W21) looks like it may avoid the two big water crossings at Bear Creek/Three Crossing and at Parramore Springs, both of which I try to skirt when the water is high ... pretty cool ... looks steep on the map?

Would love to check out RD41/Sand Creek Road ... I'll have to get up pretty early to meet you guys by 7am in Cache Creek ... ha. My KLR tops out around 65mph ... :laughing

Well, hope all this makes sense ...

Thanks for organizing this cool ride, and hope to see you around the campfire,
-- SFMCjohn

I rode 330 miles of slab today... and my Heine is terrified that any more slab this weekend will result in world class hemorrhoids... This ain't for Iron Butt credit. :wtf Maybe SFMCjohn, Mootsuno, or Hotmamaandme might know some routes up in Mendo to stay off the slab.

DRider is trying to seduce me to be his 'Sheet Iron partner' and ride Frank Raines on Sunday... it's a eHarmony thing I guess :love

Sid only rides "On Any Sunday" :x some BS Nostalgic Steve McQueen/Mert Lawwill/Malcolm Smith stalker thing... what should I to do??? :dunno

:twofinger Sounds like your plate is hardly full at all!:laughing

I'd like to come but am currently sporting low-pressure observed trials tires for riding over trees, mud, boulders, etc. (they only make full dirt or slick street tires for my rim size -- no dual sport stuff).

What do you guys expect to average as far as street speeds -- maybe I could keep up if some of you are set up for offroad.. 45 mph on slab is scary with this setup though..

Or, if there's no mud, maybe I could just run slick street skin the whole time?

Basically, unless I change to street slick tires, I can handle singletrack trails / offroad terrain nicely; fire roads half-decent and short sections of street rather poorly/dangerously.

Awesome SFMCJohn, thanks for the info I figured, "where theres a will theres a way"...and sure enough. Rd 41 should be interesting I've never been on it before and I hope you make it out there. Scrimavera135 Not sure what bike your riding? Anyways there are sections of pavement between Maxwell and Stonyford where the speed limit is 50+ and Im sure there will be bands of trucks hauling dirtbikes out to Stonyford that morning pressuring you if you are going to slow but you can always pull over. That said it's up to you, I personally love speed but we will have junctions where we will stop and make sure the whole gang is together before heading of in another direction and sounds like once we hit the dirt you should be able to hang. I'm running my scorpion dual sport tires not knobs shouldn't be much mud mostly dry, probably even dusty in some sections.:teeth

Alright I'm IN...gonna be a loongg freaking bit of slab to/fro to reach you guys but the dirt cannot be resisted :twofinger

On the back half of the route I plan on splitting off at marker G, and continue on 16 back down to 505 so I can get home before the sun comes up...!

How about Sunday 8am @ Cache Creek Resort for meetup, as I gotta leave quite early fr the sbay to get up there. Any particular location at the Resort to meet?

T

Well fellow barfers should we call it 8 am at Cache Creek ? I've never been to the actual casino I only know of the gas station as a meeting location.

Just to share the pain with Scrimavera135 I'm going to slab the DR250 all the way up. Besides, my truck blew a headgasket today, towing anything with a Mini Cooper is quite odd, and riding the Tiger would make take too much estrogen (and an immediate oil cooler replacement). Just to show that Lois Pyrce and Mondo Enduro shouldn't be committed to a Sanatorium... I'm going to roast a new set of knobbies this weekend... See y'all at 8AM at Cache Creek Casino (gas station)... that slab is going to suuuuckkkk!!!! :cry

Ok found more dirt leading from Williams to Stonyford and from Upperlake to Hwy20/16 junction minus the Wibur Springs section. total of 245 miles :thumbup

That's a walking map you have there. Dunno about the other parts, but someone might complain if you take that route on a moto through Fairfield. :laughing

However Cordelia Road and Pennsylvania Avenue would do the job nicely.

I hope I will join you guys on this one! My XR600 is not in the best shape but what the heck! I can always split of into a limp home mode.

What's the required fuel range for this ride? And are you sure all these roads are open or should we carry extra fuel for possible detours?

Not 100% sure of the route from Williams to stonyford thru the dirt will do more research tomorrow. But have been on the routes thru mendo NF before and know they are open. From upper lake back to cache creek again not 100% sure but there are ways. I will double check these routes and not sure of milage but if we gas up at cache creek, Williams and upper lake there should be no problems.

I wouldn't think you would need extra gas. I'm guessing a 100 mile range would cover it but I know the Killr would have some extra juice if need be. Has there been a finalized meet time and place yet?

...I'd like to join, but I'm working Sunday...

Serge - I'm campaigning my DR250 and you know I leak oil and get flats just as much as your XR600... and 'magic buttons' are for 'Girlie men'. At least your $100 Hi-Lux will luxuriously transport your XR600 to Cache Creek meetup point. I'm slabbing 142 miles just to rendezvous with y'all. :rant

I'm bringing a siphon for KiLR fuel :p

I'm in. 4490 Central Way Fairfield, CA 94585 at 7am Sunday.

Need some off road 'training' on my new tiger XC before the Mendocino Rally in May.

Nah, my truck is to carry all the camping shit and for rescue ops - Cache Creek is only ~30 miles from Davis ! :ride
