Stupid STUPID!! - a.k.a my boss thinks it's cool to block motorcycles

From Ironbutt's thread:
A driver changing lanes has the responsibility to check the lane they're moving into to ensure it's free of traffic. THEY are changing lanes into the lane that someone else could be occupying. If it forces me to brake hard or otherwise avoid them, that's a lane incursion and I want them to know that. I don't get massively upset, I just look at them, shake my head or maybe motion two fingers at my visor: "Look out for us next time!".

I ride to work four times a week. My bike is my only vehicle. :)
You seem much too thin-skinned to be commuting on a motorcycle. You should consider a bus pass.

And at this point, I've regrettably taken vandalism off the list of possible options, since I actually need this job. :(
So no moral stricture against retaliation for a crime that NEVER FUCKING HAPPENED???

Here's the offending vehicle, complete with plates:
I don't know about the law, but it seems to me you now bear some responsibility for anything that might happen to the vehicle or owner. Good luck. :|

my how this thread has grown. but yes report her to the dmv as a scofflaw. we all must pay rd taxes, so should she.
she will get to pay the reregistration taxes.
added late fees,
and maybe even a fine...can a leo give such a ticket??? :thumbup

as to cutting off a moto get it on cam give it to the local DA. and take her to civil court. (have a friend do this or your will lose your job.
not sure if a attempted murder thing. or even attempted ?
but cutting off another is a crime..or at least should be mandatory jail time.

I'm not getting upset over it, just gently letting the driver know that I'd appreciate a look next time. It's not done aggressively or with malice.

I ruled it out. Sure it's fun to joke about doing it, but I'd never actually do it. It's like saying "Oh I could kill that guy!" - I'm sure we've all said it, and most of us aren't murderers.

So I'm responsible for another's potential crime, even though I haven't encouraged anything of the sort?

OP, unless you want to post the address, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE report the out-of-state tags to CHP.

Thank you. Done.

This seems like a good, lawful way to resolve this. Karma's a bitch! And no wing mirror rippage necessary. :laughing

How do THOSE shoes fit ?

Pretty sure that there's nothing illegal about a driver moving from side to side in "their" lane. In other words; as far as you know, you boss hasn't done anything wrong yet, either. Sometimes people just say shit, for drama's sake.

I think it was already established that the law is a little grey here - she was technically blocking the normal flow of traffic, against CHP guidelines. She could also technically get a ticket for it, and it's a bit of a dickish thing to do regardless.

+1 for reporting her. Don't be a dick if you can't handle pissing a few people off.

It's not just against the guidelines, it's against the law. There is a CVC for intentionally impeding lane splitting motorcycles. Hopefully one day she'll do it to a cop.

Honestly, o.p., "Minority Report" not withstanding, I don't think you should be posting this lady's truck and license plate, which now has been quoted.

Not only does it put you in jeopardy, but it makes you look like the bad guy, here. Despite the serious and not so serious encouragement to do something to this person, there is no evidence that she has done what she said. This is like arresting you because you claim that you went over 120mph on a city street. That doesn't sound right, either, does it?

Maybe I'm naive, but I'm just not seeing how this makes me the bad guy? I'm just posting a picture. I haven't given names, addresses, locations, anything. I'm honestly not sure what anyone could do with this information that would possibly be of consequence.

Maybe I'm wrong, though? :dunno

You might be. You told an unflattering story about your boss that got a bunch of motorcyclists riled up and then posted an identifying photo of her truck. If someone who read the thread came across the truck and took retaliatory action, you might be at least civilly liable if anyone made the connection.

It's not just against the guidelines, it's against the law. There is a CVC for intentionally impeding lane splitting motorcycles. Hopefully one day she'll do it to a cop.

You and the OP have a fundamental misunderstanding of the obligations other drivers are under WRT your lane splitting. The are not required to make room for you. They are required not to impede your progress in a way that could cause you harm.

Intentionally blocking or impeding a motorcyclist in a way that could cause harm to the rider is illegal (CVC 22400).

If she moves to close the space while you're three car lengths back and you somehow crash, she's not the fucktard.

OP - You're not taking advice, you're letting the mob tell you what to do. I recommend taking down that pic, although now that MysterYvil has quoted you, it's on the interweb FOREVER. :wow

He's a pretty reasonable guy, I suspect he'd edit the post if asked nicely ;)

Aruna,
If you REALLY think this thread is innocuous, send a thread link your boss, and see what she thinks of it :wow

What exactly have I done that "the mob" told me to do? :dunno I put up the pic because I wanted to. All the other crap about ripping off her mirrors or slapping a bunch of stickers on the truck were a) a joke and b) I wouldn't have done those things anyway.

Regardless, since some very sensible folks seem to think that her truck is in severe danger of being vandalised and/or I could lose my job, I'm taking it down just in case.

Perhaps a friendly mod might be kind enough to edit the quoted pic, too? :teeth

*mod hat on*
Editing posts is not something we do 'round here (there are/have been exceptions, but we avoid as much as possible)

Please pm and / or request in thread to MysterYvil with your request.

Sorry to take so long, guys; post edited.

(And thanks, Aruna, for reporting the tag violation to CHP. :thumbup)

Maybe, you're not, you did, you didn't, they can't, and you're not. ;)

Thank you, and my pleasure! :laughing

Regardless of whether it was ok for me to post the pic, I feel better for having taken it down, just in case. Ya never know with the interwebz, after all.

Thanks all! I'll let you know if she says anything about CHP citing her for illegal plates. :thumbup
