So when do you figure to be back to HWY16 around Chache Creek? Before 3pm?

I'd slab it back to Cobb from there while the rest head back to the bay area.

You should reach Cache Creek by 1PM. so a suggestion is to break off at Cache Creek heading north on CA-16, West on CA-20 back to Lower Lake and down to Cobb. If Rd-40 is blocked and we return to Knoxville OHV for more dirt time, take Morgan Valley Rd. north to Lower Lake.

We expect to be back on I-80 before 3PM... if no one stops for a 2 hour lunch :rolleyes

I'm gonna try to figure my shit out and try to make it happen. I'll post up if I'm going for sure.

Exactly what I was thinking.

Weather looks like it might not cooperate with us. It looks like it's going to be cold too.

Looks like fun, but I promised to make an appearance at a birthday party. This dual-sport/off-road thing is pretty fun though :)

Too soon to tell, forecasts more than a day or two out aren't worth much. But you can tell we're spoiled when 60 degrees is considered cold. :laughing

I'll likely head down 16 from Cache Creek and take the scenic route back to Fairfield.

I know what you mean, but Cobb forecast has the highs in the mid 50's and lows in the 30's.
Cache Creek area is a little better. Not too bad. Rain looks to be leaving the forecast.

What about Bartlett Springs Rd if Rd 40 is closed ?

If we can reach Bartlett Springs Rd. and return to Fairfield before sunset... map out the route and estimate time and distance, I'm game. We'll see if any other riders will join us if Rd-40 is closed.

Glad you got your ECU sorted. See you on Sunday

Just found this thread and thought I'd add my .02. I rode Rd 40 in early January starting from Hwy 16. Made it all the way to the closed gate, where I tried to drag my KTM990 under it. Didn't work, so had to ride all the way back to Hwy 16. Still, it was a fun ride. I think I met Seavoyage this past Sunday on Doc Wong's ride.

Hey Leo! I met you on Sunday as well. Fat guy, black wee-strom with yellow stripes. I remember the dragging attempt story. Love it!

Why didn't it work? Looks like downhill from the other side... would it help to bring a tarp or something? :teeth

I did that in January... it was a lot of fun but would make for a long day with everything else going on.

One stupid question; do I need a green sticker ta ride BLM land?

So if the gate is closed, there is not going to be an attempt to go around the gate?

Studying the photos posted by Leo_jb and SFMCjohn; I suspect we can get the thumpers around the 'south' post of Rd-40 East gate with 3 guys walking each bike over. The ADV bikes can also go around the 'obstacle'.. best to have 4 guys per bike.

Now that's the adventure... you guys will have thread on a route most have never ridden before.

No worries on your FZ6. We had a Versys and a Triumph Bonneville out riding Knoxville OHV a few weeks ago... they did just fine on street tyres.

Plated, Green or Red sticker required Source: BLM Ukiah Field Office OHV Regulations You'll have to comply with the same regs if you plan on riding the Mendocino NF annual rally or Sheetiron 300 in May.

The off-highway vehicle noise emission standard is now 96 dBA on 1986 and newer models. Models 1985 and older must comply with 101 dBA. The testing standard is J1267 developed by the Society of Automotive Engineers.

Red sticker vehicles may be operated on public lands during seasons established by the California Air Resources Board. All model year 2002 or older OHV's are being issued green stickers by the DMV. Green sticker vehicles are not subject to the restricted riding seasons.

For more information, visit the California State Park Off Highway Motor Vehicle Recreation Division web site at http://www.ohv.parks.ca.gov/ or call 916-324-4442 and ask for an information packet.

Getting the thumpers around will not be a problem. How are you planning to get the street bikes past?

My thought was:

1. Bring a tarp and a blanket like movers use.
2. Lay tarp on ground, blanket on tarp, bike on blanket.
3. Drag tarp under gate.

Think that would work? I have those things, and saddlebags to bring them.
