Sweeping Winger 2026 Photos

Looks like it was nice on the coast.

It was decent. The locals call this time of year Fogust. I do see a tad of sun. Hopefully we will get lucky and it will break before we roll.

I doubt it but really I just hope Legget is dry. Headed to Hoho it was wet and that stole some fun.

Avenue of the Giants is on our hit list.

I left for the BARF Swinging Winger Rally on Wednesday, because why not … made for the Anthony Peak watchtower above Mendocino Pass/Forest Highway 7.

one of my pet projects is trying to get photos with the sun, moon and bike all in the same shot:

on Thursday it was off to Covelo and Mina Road and Kettenpom:

one thing I love about BARF rallies is they drag me to parts of the world off my yellow brick road … spent the rest of the day riding new-to-me roads for the first time. the nice person at the Kettenpom Store sent me down Peak Road to Alder Point to Kneeland, searching for a random hilltop off Showers Pass Road, where maybe I could poach a campsite and a sunset:

found it!:

the roads north of Hwy 36 on Thursday were all part of the Northern California Backroads Discovery Route X that people from BARF were talking about on this thread: Lost Coast BDR-X

so I got to do some of the Lost Coast sections from the LC BDR-X, and it was pretty spectacular. yet another win for BARF. :laughing :ride

Folks on the road already.

Planegray and I are doing the slow start to let the fog hopefully clear a bit.

the road to Eureka this morning:

Showers Pass Road, 9:27 am, 08/07/2026. maybe 30 miles from Eureka.

lots of blue sky and warm temps just a few miles from the coast and up a couple hundred feet in elevation, was my experience, anyway. :ride

You know it's only 4:30 in the afternoon, right?

No. I just missed the invite......:(

:p

I was about to eat some tacos 1/2 hour ago. There is a taco truck in the motel parking lot. They were not open.

They just came though and are setting up. My leg is pretty tired. I want to ride tomorrow so going to keep my ass right here in the motel.

Need booze!!!

Some today.

Luckily the fog was not low and did not wet the roads. When we hit Legget the sun came out and fun was had.

Of course the temp went from 62 - 89 when we hit the stop spot near 101.
