I am currently reading three books from a few different authors trying to find a good new series that I like and am not really excited about two of them, but kind of like the third so I am asking if anyone can anyone suggest a good series to read as I hate when a good book ends and would like for the story to continue. I really do not care for science fiction, but other than that I am open to suggestions.

For those fans of Ready Player One, there is a Podcast available where they discuss each chapter, one at a time.
Its called "Get to the Good Part"
It can be a little annoying, how sidetracked they get, and the F-Bombs are common, but its still a pretty good podcast. They bring up quite a few good points I didn't think about.
 
don't have it in front of me @ the moment, but

Liam Neelsen's "Full Throttle" is downright forgettable. Don't waist your money. I can't seem to finish the book which I normally do a paperback in a couple days...

It's about him being a mechanic for Robert Dunlop. I thought it would tell all kinds of hair-raising stories about the Dunlop's. Instead it seems to be about his unexciting childhood/growing-up life so far...

I can't get past 1/3 way into book....keep putting it down.

If that says anything...:thumbdown
 
John Sandford

His novels have 'Prey' as part of the title. He spent decades as a newspaper crime reporter then moved into crime fiction. Good stuff. Lotsa' grit and texture in his prose.
 
PAPER by MArk Kurlansky

It's about the history of paper. Very insightful into todays world in a way. He also wrote SALT and COD in case anyone has read those.

I like John Sanford as well, I've read all the prey novels & spinoffs. I think there are now 17 in the series. I went through withdrawals when I ran out.

Also, Gray Man series by Mark Greaney, 7 book series, spy/action.

And, Lee Child's Jack Reacher series, 16+ books, good paced action.
 
I just finished "The Taking of K-129", about the Glomar Explorer, which used to be in the mothball fleet in Suisun Bay.

Amazing project. Fascinating book. There still must be 2/3 of a Russian sub, complete with nuclear missiles, at 40 degrees latitude and 180 longitude, in some 16,500 feet depth...

Im familiar with that story. I think we got most of the sub and just told the Russians the good bit sank. My tinfoil hat is only rated to 15,000 feet deep tho.
 
I just read "Artemis" by Andy Weir, who apparantly gave up his day job...

Very good. I'd bet they will make a film out of it.
 
Did this thread used to be in the Sink? I lost track of it and missed seeing the recommendations.

I too read The Taking of K-129. Very good. Another Cold War book I've read in the past year is The Billion Dollar Spy, about a Soviet in the USSR spying for the US.

If you saw and like the movie Layer Cake, you might like the book even more. Slight spoiler: the ending is a little different, and there's a sequel, Viva la Madness, with the same nameless narrator.
 
Peter Huchthausen wrote a book about the K-19 I might have to read.
 
Long thread, so probably already mentioned, but Ubik by PKD, The Stars my Destination by Alfred Bester, and the Wind-Up Bird Chronicles by Murakami are all great reads.
