The CMSP has $250k. How do you want to spend it on moto safety??

Note: I did not read the full thread so this may have already been stated.

Use the 250k to subsidize or offer a significant one time discount for MSF training for all riders in California.

Like:thumbup

maybe the back though.

I will be collecting for more thought and more of your input in the second 1/2 of this effort.

these could easily be made for less than a dollar each btw

So you definitely could outfit many different police and sheriff depts plus CHP

Also, Im sure its been noted already but what about getting more messages on the large changeable message boards

On a mission to get these together... guess that means no riding.. :(

Last minute suggestions are welcome of course.

From the CHP also:

Preliminarily, three projects have been identified as feasible to complete in Fiscal Year 2016/17, specifically, the CMSP student safety vest pilot project (CMSPADV-2016-004), and the two poster projects (CMSPADV-2016-006 and CMSPADV-2016-007, respectively). Some of the other suggestions had policy and/or legislative issues which prevent them from going forward.

As a next step, Acting Chief C. C. would like to discuss the suggestions with you via a telephonic meeting. A teleconference has been tentatively set for Wednesday, December 14, 2016.

***********

I will advise after that meeting.

Thanks for helping out with your suggestions.

Zack asked if the proposal to put a lane splitting awareness sticker on the CHP.
The answer was there is not enough time to implement much before July 1 which is when the money needs to be spent by.

These are my notes from yesterday's meeting.

Proposal moving forward: 4, 6 and 7. ( I will be on the smaller review committee).

Possible future projects (tabled for now*) – I am open to take to the CA Motorcycle Safety Committee, although I think OTS Moto money is going to be scarce in 2017.
2, 3, 5, 8, 9, 13

1 and 10 are pending the Lane splitting guidelines being developed and approval first. (Sounds like they will be seriously considered in the future - this program will continue. Starting in July we will move on these on potentially more.)

11- is going to happen, just needs to be figured out where and when.

12 has merit, but takes national guidelines. The cost is difficult to calculate. This is going to continue to be researched for future implementation.

* Projects are tabled for now due to available time to implement before July 1.

sad that I missed this thread, I don't venture into General all that much anymore

really too late to add my :2cents but I will anyway :2cents

wow, $250k always sounds like a lot of money until you realize that it boils down to 31 cents per registered motorcycle.

I'm glad you got something passed because anything is better then nothing. Where will the posters be displayed?

Actually if you have an idea bring it. I can already pitch it.

Considering the amount they have been using of the fund the extra Million is awesome (assuming you read the first post). The 250K that is open to our committee to provide input on is sure appreciated by me.

Kind of a half empty kind of dude, hey? :laughing Registered owners probably means about 50 cents per rider, and even more per street rider. And if you look at historical California State expenditures for street motorcycles, this is like five cherries on a big ol' MGM slot, in my opinion. It's definitely better than pulling two oranges and a joker. :)

In most of the close-call/crash threads posted on here, I noticed that none of the posts/vids showed rider using tee tee ("hold your position, i'm passing through") just before the incident. You can see in videos that riders are not covering horn button when entering a sketchy traffic situation. Well timed horn use is probably the most proactive way to solve the developing traffic situation. If it fails, then you still have option of using regular accident avoidance maneuver.

It's much easier to use compared to brake and swerve maneuver.
During commute hours, it will lessen the 'startled' effect.
It will keep the traffic flow flowing compared to braking (brake light lights up) which causes chain reaction of other drivers braking.

Maybe do some tests and see if it's worth promoting this practice.

Hell, we could do that for them :teeth

budman you are a superstar, the tip of the spear, the zenith of Moto Ambassadorism! :hail

:laughing I've personally seen this happen. Caltrans, too. Wasn't me!

I don't have any helpful suggestions being new to the area and not understanding what issues there are, however, just throwing out there if it's useful at all that i'm a market research consultant by trade (9+ years) - i deal with data analytics all day.

If the proposal you end up with requires data mining/drawing conclusions from data, i'd be more than happy to volunteer my time to help analyze & write up recommendations.

Few hundred thousand gallons of white road paint and bot dots, why? Motorcycle highway and freeway lanes in majorly congested areas of CA or in high moto accident areas.

Get this put on all dmv written test.
- Is a motorcycle/motor-driven cycle legally allowed to travel between other vehicles during periods of heavy traffic?
A.YES, but not if traffic is moving faster than 35(it is 35 right)
B.NO, it is illegal and an unsafe practice

-wording can be worked on

and just its barf a nice commuter bike with good egro for a 6'2 185lb rider. i will free advertise any gear, stickers, or any tangible information(handing out xxxx to other riders etc) ......one can dream no??
