The Electric Motorcycle Thread

There was a announcement that Lightning delivered one bike and is still having production issues. There is more information on the Lightning owners Facebook group.

Yeah I'm not sure why anyone would buy an SR over the SR/F today..

I did a test ride on both. I found the SR/F to be rather uncomfortable. I would even take my SR over it.

But the Energicas perform even better, charges at up to 26 KW, has a reverse and other advantages over the Zero SR/F besides the much better comfort and looks.

I don't have a FB, can you share the post/link if it's public?

I looked and did not find much information on the delivery of one "Strike".

Apparently, one of these rare birds made it to the top of Mt Hamilton and was recently wrecked by a car making a u-turn.

:wow
" Car made a U-Turn about 15ft in front of me from the right lane - Made a hard left but couldn't avoid getting hit in a shallow angle still leaning hard to the left. Carbon fiber on both sides is damaged from impact with the car and the subsequent drop and sliding on the blacktop. The right foot-peg and brake assembly got ripped off. I was thrown off and was sliding down the street on the opposite lane - Luckly no traffic - Gear absorbed most of the impact."

Now we see what it's like to get replacement parts from Lighting.

They have to have sold more than one LS-218 because Lightning was at Refuel TT 2018 with one and I asked if they were going to take it out on the track and they said it was a customers bike.

What were they doing there with a "customers" bike?

I've read one owners account of the bike, that's it. I haven't seen proof that they actually sold more than one, maybe they sold 2 or 3, who knows...

Beats me I was sad they didn't run it on the track I did get to ride with the Mission R though :)

Saw this in an Energica newsletter email its about racing the TT Zero last year. I didn't know but they raced a pretty much stock Ego at the TT and completed it making production bike history.

Wow 21.5kwh on the new Energicas.

Finally a range that is usable.. may have to get one depending on price and service schedule. Will see..

* All range testing carried out in real-world conditions on actual road surfaces.

From their announcement: https://www.energicamotorusa.com/6113-eicma-2019-my2020/

That's really impressive if so. Nobody has been able to come close and they shaved 5%?

If these bikes stick near their current price point, Zero and Harley are falling behind fast. Harley hasn't even really started.

Yeah, battery cells are pretty much impossible to come by these days. Nobody manufactures them! Surprising they managed to find enough for one bike. :rofl

Its funny you say that, but Zero's sole battery supplier is Farasis from Hayward. I have never heard of them in the EV world before owning a Zero. Farasis is a relatively small company (200 to 500 employees by Glass Door) and I guess they have manufacturing in China by the job posting.

Sure Farasis probably has the battery specs that Zero wants in a supper compact form factor, but this strategy is risky and costly for a small company like Zero that has relatively small buying leverage.

I wonder what Lightnings cell is and what their pack architecture is like.

Sound like a good tread to start on EMF Forum.

I've worked hard to put ~100 loops on the Zero SR in a year, all goaty twisties. I'm going to miss 414 lbs when compared to ~599 lbs (Energica underestimates the wet weights), but the aerodynamics, traction control, and cruise control make up for the weight. 19.0 nominal kWh :drool

It depends I kinda feel like the Energica fits me better. The SR and Empulse are a little too small for my size. 5'10" 175lbs. but I can make it work. The weight disappears when you start moving.
