The Grand Tour

All the car review drifting is way overdone.
Just slightly better than burnouts and doughnuts to create action scenes.
I can appreciate the rear stepping out in pursuit of a hot lap but drifting all the way through a turn is overdone.

It's the new way. Now the squids are drifting their cars through the mountain roads. Lots of black stripes all over the roads. Many of them right over the edge, lol.

The coyote always lost. :laughing

I was pleasantly surprised that it was as interesting and as well filmed/edited as Top Gear.

I thought the intro was engaging until they took stage and basically said nothing.

The produced car segments are great and feel exactly like Top Gear, but the in-studio segments felt really detached to me. I think it's because there are three blokes talking to an American Audience, and there is a culture gap. The subtle humor/non-humor doesn't land. They just seem like fish out of water in front of an American audience, even though they're just being themselves.

I thought it was a good start though forget that American "Stig" guy; he's lame.

I thought the photography and sound was several notches above what Top Gear did.

The lads looked pleased as punch with themselves.

This show costs anywhere from $6-$10M an episode to produce?!?!?!?

Netflix is indicating they bid on it and lost by a significant amount. They're suggesting the winning bid was close to $250M for the series. :wow

It wasn't just the money that won out, Amazon was the only ones who basically said "we'll give you the money AND we'll be 'hands off'. Do what you want and we'll stay out of your way."

Netflix, HBO, etc all wanted to retain some measure of veto authority over the creative process because they felt Jeremy Clarkson was too much of a wild card. Clarkson, May, Hammond told them to fuck off.

Also, BBC estimated that in 2014 alone, Top Gear made them $225 million. Reported winning bid by Amazon was $210-$246 million, so if they come anywhere near that $225 million in the first year it'll have been worth it already. $210 million was for 36 episodes / 3 seasons over 3 years, so they stand to make over half a billion dollars on this new show.

Didn't read the links but I assume its $225M in revenue and not profit.
Will still take a while for Netflix to break even.

I'm not that optimistic that the formula has a lot of life left in it.
Is this one going to be shot in the US mostly?
What happens to American Top Gear?

Based on what they said in the first episode, they will shoot all around the world and not based on one location. The only thing they will come back to is the track they put up. I think that's still somewhere in the UK.

He utterly said that something like given the location in Britain there will be moisture in the air, very often

anyone know why they had to waste the appearance of 1 actor and 2 other celebrities, just to get them to NOT come for a 'star-interview'? :laughing... my guess is copy-right..

Dear f*cking lord the second episode was absolute and complete rubbish...I almost turned it off but waited to see if it got any better.

Nope.

Train wreck and the acting was hopeless as were all the jokes.

There was way too much filler but it was ok.

yeah... wtf was up with the last episode. The Aston Martin review was pretty cool... the rest just seemed like time wasters. Overall, still enjoying it though...

BBC issues.

One of the less loved segments of The Grand Tour is the celebrity guest segment. In this segment, a celebrity would typically appear on the show to plug something they are working on but inexplicably while trying to appear on the show they have all met with untimely ends. It would seem that this is not entirely by choice.

In a recent article from The Sun, they stated that “killing off” the celebs was essentially a forced response by Amazon and The Grand Tour to the BBC’s strict legal conditions following Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond, and James May leaving the show.

In other interviews, Jeremy Clarkson has said that The Grand Tour has also been stopped from having celebrities drive on a race track, having a leaderboard, and other segments from Top Gear.

A source for The Sun said that “The Grand Tour have been told not to implement the traditional celebrity interview segment.”

It would seem that some of the least enjoyed parts of The Grand Tour may not be Amazon and the boy’s fault after all. We can instead all happily blame the good ol’ BBC. Thanks, BBC.

Watched episode 2 last night and laughed my ass off the whole time. I like that they're going beyond just silly car shenanigans stuff and doing general silly shenanegans :laughing

Loved EP1, EP2 was just ok. EP3 is looking like it will be great again.
There have been some really good camera work in this new series.

I literally hate that Clarkson reviewed the Vulcan.
(EP2) ... I've already seen it reviewed with Harris !

Virtually I hate they're dicking with the BBC all the time. What does "The Grand Tour" mean? TG-T.. get it???

Dang this would suck to watch two similar shows... :(

I can't stand Chris Harris, and the actual top gear with the new cast sucks bawls. I'll take the antics of James, Richard, and Jeremy any day.
