I sat through 5 FULL CYCLES of a stoplight this morning. FINALLY a truck came and got in line behind me, and the light changed for us almost immediately. Why do streetlights hate motorcycles? :(
Is there anything I can do, short of running the light?
 
I just wait for a safe opportunity with no LEOs around and run the light. If cited, your defense will be that the light was defective - in which case you can treat it as a 4-way stop.
 
I would wait a minimum of one cycle before running it though.
That being said, I would move yoru moto back and fourth on the sensor to try and get it to trip too. Forward and back a good 5-10 feet.

This is what I was thinking, but this was a very busy intersection with near-constant cross traffic. Pretty much impossible to take an opening without unnecessary risk.

Gain weight and ride a heavy bike. :laughing

some say magnets mounted to the underside of the motor might trip the signals, ...

... or that pushing your starter button (even while the motor is running ) will do it, ...

Pretty sure they are all magnetic now.

All of the new-ish ones are magnetic, but there are still quite a few pressure plate ones still around. There are two in Pacifica, for instance.
 
You'll see a square pattern in the pavement. There's a wire in there that works like a metal detector. Try placing the motor directly over it. If it doesn't work just go.

That raises the point that busy intersections are dangerous anyway, and not fun... possible to take a different route?

Alternatively, make a right turn and then turn around somewhere.
 
I've spoke to a motorcycle cop who said he had no problem with riders "safely" running the red after being missed by at least one cycle of the lights. YMMV...
 
Same boat as others... if it misses me in a cycle and noone is around... i run it...

My heavier bike is more likely to trigger a light without using sidestand.

Some lights I can't trigger at all.

That won't trigger a turn light to go green.

I've fought a ticket for this where the left turn signal to my work would never register a motorcycle and won.

Make sure you're lined up right in the middle of the sensor, put your kickstand down and lean the bike on it to get a bit more metal closer to the ground.

Yeah I find this one very hard to believe.

This may cause a safety switch to stop the engine. A newer rider may panic and not understand what is going on.

That's what I do... plus some lights the sidestand thing seems to work
 
I would make sure I was over the loop and hit the starter
